Hi guys I would like to know how to maintain a laptop. Both the software and the hardware.
For software I know the standard defragment and error checking
Thanks
maitaining a laptop is not much different from a pc really
you have your software and hardware to maintain
like your pc
heres some little bit of example info.
Software
keep upto date on your system updates so less issues and problems for your system.
defragging your file system and registry
if you have software for your registry defrag but
windows has file system defrag with all os.
some softwares do both.
registry cleaning
ccleaner would be your best option for registry
antivirus,spyware and malware scans
checking error and security logs on computer/laptop and your router if need be.
i maintain my laptop by creating a desktop folder called maintenance. Inside that folder i have malwarebytes free, avg free, eusing registry cleaner, disc clean up and disc defragmenter. I run all of these programs on the first of each month.
malwarebytes a must,,good anti virus,,also got microsoft security essentials running at all times,,as canker says, only use on hard surfaces,,,defrag when it says so and run regular scans,,its a bit like a motor, the better you treat it the longer it lasts

I used Essentials for about two years, didn't have any major problems but when I ran SuperantiSpyware it regularly showed up some stuff that Essentials had missed.
Now running full Malawarebytes on four computers and all running clean, I still run SuperantiSpyware regularly which always comes up clean other than the odd tracking cookie.
To all who responded to the msges above - what do think of just using Microsoft Essentials?
Tom
IMHO malwarebytes is a must also forgot to mention super antispyware,i have both and mse plus anti virus
better to be safe than sorry

Never used it, guess I have some trust issues when it comes to microsoft protecting my computers when most of the problems are caused by poor programming in windows
Every system I work on gets malwarebytes (full), avast antivirus &, if it's my own system, comodo firewall.
Every piece of protective software that comes with windows is turned off.
I've had no serious nasties, exceptions being those packed up with keygens that are easily removed.
If you listen to what they tell you, you won't suffer.
