What do you mean by restoring to factory defaults?
    Do you mean BIOS?
If so, enter BIOS and you have an option there.
If you mean the O/S (windows), there is no such thing.
All you can do is a fresh install.

older dells have hidden partition under 'cntrl and f11' on boot up.( your older xp inspirons etc )

newer dells have dell datasafe recovery under f8, 'repair my computer' ( most vista and 7 machines )

          yeaa

i fixed a newer dell laptop recently for someone and the recovery option was turned off in the system properties meaning it was not showing on F8 startup.

if you find you have no recover option at F8 startup, check startup and recovery options in your system properties and tick the box that says,

"Time to display recovery options when needed = 30"

            dell can be sneaky

Oh agreed!,, and the older ones can be even harder to get the cntrol f11 to work, but it defo is there, and is a old ghost type recovery.
i tend to use one of the later hirens, it lets you see partitions on disk and try to boot from each with the appropriate flags .
but usually even to see the partition under hirens lets you know its there and dont give up!
