Most large companies 'sub-domain' thier ipaddress' so they are generally tied to a geographical area, looking at the trace route would give you some idea if you are in the right area, and sky will have logs of who had xx ip address when, information, which is deemed personal information and cannot be disclosed (DP Act), but the police can request disclosure under RIP Act 2000 and various other legislation.

The mac address will also show in the rooters logs as being assigned a local ip by dhcp.

    Hope this helps

Not really, you might not be able to trace it, however the police can, the isp will have logs of that ip address and where it was allocated. If you have the IP then give it them

If this is referred to the police, then they will be arrested, and possibly have to go back to the station maybe in front of magistrate in morning, either way your going to find out who they are, and you have the advantage... time, its amazing what can happen to people in time, especially when fate would put you somewhere else.

Going to the police is looking like your only way forward now.

The correct route should be the police but I understand those who dont have confidence in their abilities. I was the victim of theft last year, 3 grands worth and not alot was done about it.
