Ok now I have managed to make the bootable disk , it boots to dos , I can see the .exe file but when I run it it tells me bad command or file name , is this perhaps why it wont run under windows -the file is ****ed ?

Why don't you look for drivers with your servicetag?

That way you will get the latest and exact drivers for your configuration

Even if bios is upgraded, it's not being reseted, so if they disabled usb in it it won't work in windows. Try to reset bios to default settings and then see if anything is changed in Windows.

Are all drivers in Windows installed? Chipset and others?

I haven't run any driver detector utility as yet ,assuming the usb are working because mouse and one other usb key coding device is working.

Dont think this will help, have you an old PCI usb you could fit, i had on board sound problems with a pc and fitted a separate PCI card, i know its not the same problem, just thought if one will fit that is.
When you say original disk, is the one that came with pc, or a retail version i was tinkering with a HP laptop, and used a retail disk i have, everything loaded in (device manger) but could not get a device to work, went onto hp site and downloaded and reinstalled drivers from the site and got my device working, sometimes windows update show you drivers on the hardware side that need updating, and service packs over the years fix things just a thought g

Have you updated drivers, and latest xp as an updated usb.
