Hi my dad has a ASUS F3H Series laptop which the motherboard is knackered. where can i get another motherboard to replace it with to get it working again
If you are looking to learn then I would get another MB from ebay, else I would not bother you will wreck the casing whilst installing and the processor is normally soldered in and you will do it untold damage unsoldering it.
Its a no brainer m8 sell your old laptop on ebay and get some money back for the parts still working.
although I've never replaced a motherboard in a laptop i have completely stripped one down and repaired the motherboard. one piece of advice i would give if you are changin the motherboard, mark the screw holes on the old one with a marker so you can easily find them when screwing the new board in, they're hard to find otherwise!
If you undo some of the screws to some of access areas of the bottom (ram cover or wifi card cover for example) you should see a part number sticker on the mainboard somewhere..
what is the actual model number of the laptop as it is printed on the bottom of the laptop?
They will give you a scarey price, but make sure you make a note of the part number of the replacement mainboard so that you can compare prices with other suppliers.
A good place to get laptops fixed is 'clonesuk' you will have to google them, but they are able to fix mainboards to component level a lot of the time and do hold a lot of spares... no guarantees, just an option before you sell it for scrap...
