Try downloaded anti spyware/virus progs onto another laptop/pc and then setting it up on the infected machine.

If all else fails you could reinstal windows ect to get rid of the infected files.

        what operating system ?
and has she recently deleted an anti virus programme or maliware programme ?

EDIT : the shutting down ....if the laptop is old, it could be overheating if its directly on your lap, mine started to do that , i bought a laptop cooled to put between my lap and laptop, now its spot on again.

You will need to stop the virus from running first.

Do CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up task manager, then in the processes tab look for anything out of the ordinary & end the process, to stop the virus from running long enough for you to get rid of it.

As Ian said you need to stop the process first. Here is a c&p taken from the link AM gave you that works:

Just restart (force it pushing and holding the start button if necessary) the computer and as soon as the Windows starts, click control+alt+del and pull up the TASK MANAGER. Go to the tab PROCESSES and end process called 2467839.exe or any series of numbers like that. From there you can start working on your computer. Either install malwarebytes antimalware you were talking about, or remove it manually, which really isn`t a big deal. I found manual instructions at How to Remove Security Tool Virus | TechJaws.com
