I've got a latitude e6400 , it was given to me by someone who had inherited when a family member passed away. unfortunately no one knows the bios password- i managed to get into the bios by using a bios password generator, but when i use the same password again it doesnt work.
can you help?

I have been lookin for days for help. been through every password generator and tried shorting pins on bios chip, EVERYTHING.
My laptop is a DELL M5030.

When I enter the wrong bios pass 3 times it never shows a code with a "-xxxx" or any numbers at all. it only says to enter pswd. enter wrong 3 times it shuts down... I am losing my mind! Any help would be RIDICULOUSLY appreciated. beyond belief...

Thanks for the quick response - I went to try this and have noted that the serial number has changed to 5ZY7M4J-1F5A so it didn't like the password you gave me. Does the second portion of the password change day by day possibly..? Any chance you could send me another based on the new serial number - I have left the laptop at the password prompt...

suffix 1F5A cannot be calculated by our calcs, at present only Dell and paid service websites can do them
Suddenly realised that I had updated the BIOS to A12 from A09 this morning. I rolled back to BIOS Rev A09 (please note that this isn't recommended by Dell) & my serial number had returned to 2A7B. I was then able to use the password you gave me to unlock & set a new admin password. Finally, updated the BIOS back to A12 and everything is sorted...phew..!
