I recently bought a refurbished laptop and found out after 2 weeks of using it that the bios has a password. urrgghh.
The system number is below, any help appreciated.
832XD12-1D3B
I received my password from dell technical support, surprised they gave it to me I thought they would insist that I provide evidence that I am the original buyer from dell (like Apple would). But they were actually very helpful and the service agent called me back a few times to go through it with me, there were a few difficulties with using the correct code. I will explain.
I provided my service tag number (as above) and they generated the password for me within minutes. All very good.
The problem though was that the bios would not accept the password and had to try a few different things.
1) First I was told not to SHIFT to get a capital character, but to press CAPS LOCK and enter desired character. Turns CAPS off when entering numbers
2) More crucial do not press enter after you have entered the password, hold CTRL and press enter 3 times
I was googling 1D3B codes all over the net for my laptop, and came across a few threads where some people were saying they received the password but it still didn't work. The above tips might solve it. he dell agent that called me phoned in twice with suggestions, first time he read through notes and asked me not to do shift, and then he read this up more and called up to suggest I hold control and then press enter three times which worked.
I was surprised by how proactive dell support were to be honest. I was going to say "I give up" and was going to throw in the towel, but he insisted that he can't close the support ticket until he fixes the prblem and took pewrsonal charge to find a solution.
I got my passw

nobody can help you with the 1d3b tag, goggle dells customer service number and call them. you dont need to be original owner but as long as your laptop is not stolen it should not be a problem

I could kiss you right now! I still had the old HDD it was doing the same thing! So I put it in and Viola. So will that get rid of the HDD password for good or do I need to go make sure the password isnt set now? It rebooted and didnt ask for my password

I think you will need to put password as off
but the password I gave you is the master password so it will always override any password that is set
