    LG Cinema 3DTV

Just in case anybody is thinking of getting one, I can highly recommend the LG Cinema 3DTV range, it is absolutely first class.

It uses passive technology rather than active which means it's flicker free and the glasses are dirt cheap, I even used the 'disposable' ones that you get at the cinema.

I compared it with several active TVs and it blew them out of the water. I recommend you get down to a shop to test it out if you're thinking of getting one and you will not be disappointed.

I went for the 42LW550 and the cheapest place I could find it was here but I took this to Richer Sounds who price matched it.

I haven't even touched the settings! The picture was so good straight out of the box the thought never even crossed my mind.

        Will have a tinker tomorrow

          AVForums.com - LG LW550 (47LW550T) 47 Inch 3D LCD TV Review

Check out the settings this guy used
          About 2/3rds down the page

Unlike many other LG displays the 47LW550 doesn't have a THX mode so for this test we chose the ISF Expert1 mode which should represent the most accurate of the pre-calibrated presets. We also chose a Colour Temperature of Warm, a Gamma setting of 2.2 and the BT709 Colour Gamut. We selected Just Scan to ensure we weren't introducing any unwanted scaling and turned off the Energy Saving function and any other 'enhancement' feature. We set the backlight quite high in order to compensate for a slight perceived dimming caused by the polarised filter. Using a PLUGE pattern we could see that the best Brightness setting was 52 for our viewing environment and we set the Contrast control to 80. We found that leaving the Sharpness controls set at 50 resulted in an image that was free of any unwanted ringing or softness and we also left the Colour setting at 50 and the Tint at zero.

the 550 has the same panel as the 450 as i understand.

i disagree. LG passive technology aint good as active. i do understand about the flickers on the active technology which is purely based on either you need to replace the batteries or if you got too much light in your room. i been working into retail for nearly 7years now. And i have seen both passive and active technology what you people dont understand is when you look into passive technology it cuts out half of the resolution when it comes to picture quality. there is no depth of picture quality when u watching 3d tv in Hd and even standard defination is poor quality. Best 3D by miles are Samsung LED way better than LG. You will notice another thing with an LG pannel when u watchin 3D you'll see lines while wearing the glasses which is bit annoying.

Personally speaking, the passive technology is nowhere near as bright in picture as active systems and resolution does not seem as good. The best active system I have seen are the Samsung LED closely followed by Panasonic VT plasma.

don't tell me that I don't understand the difference between active and passive, I do. Just because I haven't come on here and explained the difference does not mean I don't know it. I know full well that the 1080 are split into 540 for each eye. But what counts a lot more than people reading off specs and explaining technology to me is what I experience myself. And that is that the LG Cinema TVs give A LOT better viewing experience than all of the active 3D TVs I've seen in my price range (which is quite a few). I budgeted for ?700, which really restricted me to LCDs but these were so good I spent the extra money to get one. I also looked at active LEDs around the ?1000 mark including Samsungs and LG blows them away, they don't even come close. The picture I get on the TV in 3D mode is much clearer and sharper than anything I've ever seen on any TV in HD. In 2D it's slightly better than my previous 2 year old TV. Say whatever you want but the truth is out there that the LG Cinema range is the best thing that ever happened to 3DTV so far. It's affordable, you can have loads of friends round to view sports/movies due to the low cost of glasses, they don't give you headaches, no need to mess about recharging. The only so-called drawback is the 540 resolution, but in reality, there is actually an improvement over 1080p in the image quality, and when people go to currys / richer sounds etc and see for themselves they will realise this too.

How can 540 be an improvement over 1080p ?

I have seen the passive sets in pubs, which I believe the domestic version of the set is based on and I would still say the active sets definitely give a better picture.

As you say, everyone is different. I have not had issues with headaches even after viewing long movies.

all I'm saying is it actually looks better it's the way the brain interprets it I suppose. I know it doesn't make any sense logically but all I can say is get down to Richer Sounds or Currys and give it a go

To be honest I dont know much about either and have seen neither in action but every time I would go for a LG over Samsung.

                              3d tv

Both Ishal and oneman never saw lg 3d cinema tv, its millennia past samsung, sony and the rest. I thought samsung with its smart capability was best, until I found lg with its simple design.
