i will get one to try it but i am struggling to see what it will do as all it does is convert a standard phone line to an RJ11 lead

i am using an RJ11 lead anyway like this

      or am i missing something???

      thanks

Just had a quick read - the UK ringing voltage is 75V ac at 25Hz

The ring voltage to UK spec phones is supplied on pin3 (normally unused elsewhere in the world) of the connector. This is formed by placing a 2uF 250V capacitor in series with a 470k resistor across the Tip & ring terminals (pins 2 & 5 of the connector in the UK). The Cap/Res junction is your ring voltage (ie Pin3).

          Code:
            2o-----------+---------------(2
                         |
                        ---
                        --- 2uF 250V
                         |
                         +---------------(3
                         |
                         \
                         / 470k
                         \
                         /
                         |
            5o-----------+---------------(5
note - that the above connector is the UK BT style connector used by UK phones. If a phone has an alternative connecter then its likely to be non UK anyway, and should work with standard tip/ring connection without the need for a ring capacitor. Its only UK phones which require this arrangement.

Glad the problens solved - these things can be a real niggle.

The PAP2T-NA really ought to come with some form of information about this problem when sold into the UK market. It really wouldn't cost them much to print the symptoms/solution on an instruction sheet.

Unfortunately, lots of the devices originating in the far East are fakes of the original Linksys device and seem to be sold into the UK market without the dealers even being aware we use a somewhat non-standard phone system in the UK.
