    Home networking not working properly...

    Guys,

    i am having problems accessing other computers on my network, it keeps coming up with it os not accessable or you do not have permission to view this.. . i can see the other computers but i can not open them or any of the shared folders...

    any help would be appreciated...

    Make sure that they are all in the same workgroup. It helps to have a username and password that is common to all of the computers.

        file and print sharing is enabled on all the PC's

          if you are trying to access folders on a vista pc put every thing you are trying to access in public folders on that pc open any folder and you will see it listed in the left hand window.

              have you gone into file properties and sharing tab and ticked the box to allow the file to be shared.

                    not the firewall.. have tried from all PC's... this is really confusing..

                      in internet properties genral tab is the box for client for microsoft networks box ticked.

                        some firefalls block netbios ie;norton - macafee
                        try
                        or use angry ip scanner to scan port 139

                          try \\"computername" in run
                          or \\"ipaddress"
                          Try running the network setup wizard on both pc's, make sure set to connect through residential gateway (assuming you are connecting via a router).

                          try nbtstat in command prompt to see if netbios is broadcasting
                          nbtstat - n <20> <Unique> if i remember right
                          nbtstat /? help helps

                          And i hope this helps too

                            yeah it is broadcasting... but still can not access the shares on the other PC...
