Remember if 2 devices are the same down the same channel (2xdvd writters)1 needs to be master, other slave.

If 2 devices are differant (1 hdd 1 dvd writter) then both set to master

If the drive that stopped working and I took it out, wouldnt the comp be trying to boot from that particular drive or would swapping cddrive be ok?

it would just skip the missing boot device and continue on to next. swapping cd drive should be ok, (provided its recognised, (check your bios!))

Just set bios to boot from hard drive. As said juat make sure its seen in bios. Of not look at ide configuration. The pc should boot if it see the hard drive and the boot sector is ok

            Is this resolved?

If you have a DVD/RW installed it MUST be set to master and on the last IDE connection on the ribbon. then set the other drive to Slave. then boot. if this fails..

*Then pop the battery out of the motherboard and leave for a min or so then reseat the battery.

            * If you have 2 DVD/CD drives installed. install them both on the same ribbon. ( if you have two installed and only one DVD drive is connected to IDE0 with the hard drive present that drive must be set to SLAVE as you cannot have two masters on the same Ribbon). If that is the case on IDE1 you need to set the other drive up as Master if its on the Ribbon alone.

if neither or on the IDE ribbon but with a Sata Connection, check the connections on the motherboard and make sure the Sata is Toggled "On" in the System Bios.

Hope you have resolved this already or hope this helps.

            Regards

            Street.
