              Check how much HDD space is free on your pc, you could do with at least a third spare. Your RAM of 760mb does not seem a lot. If you go to crucial.com and run the scan they will tell you what type of RAM your pc has currently and what it can be upgraded to and the cost.

                    Or just buy more memory as that is the reason why most computers run slow..

                    1G = XP
                    2G = WIN 7

                    That is the minimum memory for windows. If you can aforard it get 6G

                        Go to control panel, open mouse properties, go to the pointer options tab, then drag the pointer speed bar all the way to the right. Hit apply then ok. That'll speed things up.

                        Just kidding...
                        +1 for CCleaner

                            It could be a number of things mate but usually after a few years XP will degrade to such a level that all the cleaning in the world wont help.
                            All versions of Windows suffer from this although from Vista onwards Microsoft have produced methods to slow it down but not stop it..
                            XP was terrible for degradation and if you have changed programs often or its poorly maintained then a pc can be crippled in just over a year..

                            The only proper solution is a clean install, this means getting a good copy of your OS, backing up drivers and data, nuking your hard drive and starting from scratch..
                            I done a pc with very similar spec to yours yesterday for a customer with a old HP laptop, it was crippled but had no Malware on it..
                            Opening MS Word took 2min and to open Outlook was near impossible, after a clean install it ran sweet as a nut...
                            "Windows - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition."
