When you are installing the different hardware, ie, scanner, printer, etc. Do you get the message, or are you installing them all at once? USB device? Might be a incompatible driver or just a bad download, and that is effecting the reg. I would say use CCleaner, to clean your system out, Registry and all. Also to make sure that you completely wiped your drive, and that you don't have multiple Windows Directories on your drive, or as said, to make sure your not importing your old Reg from previous install... There are a lot of variables in this.... Sometimes the codes can be incorrect in the way they read things, and it maybe as simple as a bad sector. I would say download each piece of hardware's drivers from the mfg's web site, and make sure that your computer is up to date. Then hopefully things will work out.

Check the Bios is all that I can give you on that one... Did you install the SCSI driver for it before you did a full boot?Hi all
Right , I've sort of got around the main problem I was having. This'll make you larf.
I sat there on tuesday and changed one thing after another , not necessarily in the right order. To start with I changed the mother board and ram - still wouldn't start up , then I changed the power unit - no joy , I unpluged a external 4 usb port unit and the cable , and found that I could get it to get so far. By this time I'd about had enough so bought a new hard drive as well slapped in my windows cd and 'tadaa' it works !!!!
So I've now got a machine with a Sempron 140 processor , a gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P mother board , 2gb of ram and a 320 gb hard drive.
I've also still got the bits I took out so I may Build it up in another case to see what the problem definatly is/was but I may wait awhile ( let my temper level drop ).
I have got a stupid little problem with the new set up that I've caused , I changed the drive letters around a bit on my drives and now can't get the dvd drive to pick up. It's a samsung super writemaster DVD RW SH-S223F SCSI device if that helps - I've gone through the troubleshooter , checked it's working - Device manager , It's got power , uninstalled the driver ( can't finde updated driver ) , it was working until I changed the drive letter. Don't know what else to try.

Hi
I don't think I explained it right.
The usb ports ( external 4 port ) were on originally and suddenly caused the computer to not boot up ? - when I took both cable and unit off it sorted that out.
The hard drive was a new one when I did the final install of XP.
The DVD drive ( SCSI ) was on my computer originally when I did the reinstall ( with new bits ) it worked fine and did so until I changed the drive letter - from J or K (I think) to F - In the properties it shows the used space , free space and capacity as 0 bytes and now won't read a disc. It does spin up and there are lights but thats it. I tried uninstalling the driver and reboot with no joy , just don't know what to do now.
Thanks , AdamComment
