dell inspiron 1545 display ?

    dell inspiron 1545 display ?

    Hello Guys my Daughters Dell Inspiron 1545 has lost its display. When I switch it on i get all the noise but do not see the Microsft logo or anythingb .. I do see brightness on the screen but nothing else. Any Ideas

    Do you have a monitor handy you can plug it into that will tell you if its the display or the on board gpu. Have you plugged out the laptop plus battery then powered on just to be sure.

      shine a torch on the screen after you start up and look closely, can you see you desktop?

        seperate monitor does not come up either will try torch tonight .. alas not at home right now tnks guys

          Have tried torch, have tried complete reset by batt out .. nothing

            sorry mate, if you could have seen the desktop under the torch i'd have suggested the backlight or invertor. When you are booted up and connected to external monitor try hitting "Fn+F8". (i cant remember do they connect automatically or not, if i can get a hold of a monitor later ill try and connect my 1525 to it)

                Did the Fn + F8 switch to the external? if you could get that might be easier diagnose (and cheaper)

                    Thanks guys have tried my best and I am conversant with pc's and an engineer,but think this one is a dead duck and the cheapest option would be to buy a new laptop .. My thanks to all who tried to help

                      do you want to sell it ? if you are anywhere near Bolton i can have a look for you , i have lots of parts for this model , incl inverters , power boards , motherboards and LCD's.

                        Home insurance covers accidental damage , so check your policy excess and maybe go that way.

                            Thanks Guys for your assistance. I stripped the lapi down completely and rebuilt it .. good news is its now working .. Bad news is don't know what was wrong initially
