all he has got is avg, is it no good him?

no m8 avg is crap thats y its free i use avg pro but i use malwarebytes and spybot,he must no some1 with a usb key,pc shop will prob tell him it needs formating and all that and charge him a few ????

nip to the shops tomorrow pick up a cheapy usb memory stick itll cost less than a tenner

then download malwarebytes from here

then drag it onto your new usb key

when it is on your usb key rename the exe file anything you want such as programme.exe

the reason for this is sometimes as I have found out in the past is that the virus is clever enough to know your are trying to run it and it will even prevent you from downloading it

run the programme and let it do its thing

report back and let us know how you got on

i'm sure i can manage to buy the usb memory stick but i've never used one before and the only downloads i ever do are from here with software for my satellite box and i'm no expert at that either. i would need an idiots step by step guide in simple terminology

start your laptop in safe mode by tapping f8 on boot up, then it will give you a number of chioces, choose safe mode with network support.
then run or download malwarebytes bytes if you do not have it installed and update it then run a full scan, if its malware it will find it, then restart your pc normally.

are these instructions for use with the usb stick or dont i need one to try this,i dont have malwarebytes yet. sorry to sound so thick but if you remember the not the 9 o'clock news sketch about the woofers and tweeters thats how i feel.

i have the cnet malwarebytes download page open do i down to my computer or insert the usb stick then download

did you make a set of recovery discs when you first got you laptop. if so load them up and it will set your laptop back to factory conditions and thus eliminate all viruses and trojans etc.
make sure you have malwarebytes installed next time.

download malware bytes with you normal browser and install, once installed update it then run a full scan, do not run avg or any other software what you have got is malware and the av will not detect it as it is not a virus, when malware bytes is finished it will show a log file just close it. then it will ask if you want to delete the offending files click yes then restart your pc as normal.

so once in safe mode with network support i just click on firefox as normal then come to this link and download the malwarebytes from the post above and then i will need to update it? where will i find the updates. earlier i went into safe mode with network support and tried to activate avg but it wouldnt and i was still getting warning messages etc and the win 7 scan again so i just shut them down.
