I find AMOLED displays a fantastic picture, even better than the i4's retina display. Its also said to be more economical in terms of battery life as AMOLED only illuminates the pixels in use, whereas LCD uses a single backlight. This means you also get superb contrast ratio.

OLED screens almost force the colour to jump out of the screen, they also use less power. If I remember this correctly, the new OLED screen in the SGS II uses 60% less power than the previous OLED screen in the SGS.

Direct sunlight does still effect them. I have the Samsung I8910 Omnia HD at present, although I can see the screen in direct sunlight..it's not easy.
The SGS II has a new system where in direct sunlight the contrast is increased & resolution dropped. This makes it easier to see in sunlight.

Here's a big difference between LCD & OLED....

The galaxy s2 also use a very impressive material called Gorilla Glass. This was a pertinent selling point for me as im always dropping phones!

Personally I would take any mainstream Android phone over an ifail. Could probably fit a good hour long rant in as to why but I'll keep it short and sweet.
Main differences, open source and hardware.

          Still makes me laugh. (18+)
