    Please don't use rice.

I see this with every water damaged phone.. 'I put in in rice for a day like it said on the internet.'
Then I open it up in front of them & shake a load of water out.

Take the laptop apart so you can get to both sides of the motherboard.

    Order some IPA off ebay

Pour/spray the IPA over the board & lightly scrub it with a toothbrush.

Spray it again, then shake off the excess.

Get a hair dryer & dry the whole board.

Look over the board for electrical damage before putting it back together.

Unless you spilt distilled water over it, there will always be residue left to kill componants & bridge tracks.
Unlike the rice myth, IPA will remove any moisture left & evaporate leaving no residue (as long as you sprayed it after scrubbing).
Red wine is loaded with residue.

in no way did i copy cankers post concerning a laptop

\Chances of it working is maybe 10%. The chances of you buying another non worker and swapping the needed bits assuming you can do that is problay about 5% for a working phone and 95% for 2 broken phones.

I deal with wet phones on a daily basis... My shop is less that 600 meters from the ocean!

Only had two S2's in with water damage and I got them both going despite one looking exceedingly dire from sea water!

Samsung tend to cover their chips with resin which is a pain if you need to change them but if offers a good degree protection to liquid...

Rice is bloody nightmare! It's an old wives tale and all it does is ruin the rice! Rice contains bacteria that give off all sorts of chemicals and usually results in causing more damage!

                        1. Open the phone and take the RF board out. Clean it with alcohol using a toothbrush taking care to avoid any PCB mounted microphones. Once you're happy keep it somewhere warm like an airing cupboard, try not to use hot air as the can damage the microphone if its mounted on the circuit board...

                        2. Charge the battery in another phone if you can while all this is going on. They are often found to be zero volts and can take a few hours to spring into charging mode even on a good phone!

                        3. Clean all plug in connectors on the LCD etc as liquid tends to dry and then turn into a conductive mouldy lime-scale and will stop the phone working or give shortened battery life.

Your chances are about 60% good at getting it going. Just don't force things or rush the job!

But if you did, wouldn't it of been better to change the word 'laptop' to 'phone'.

This is what you should be looking for...

You need to clean off all the shite from the connectors.

Don't submerge the lcd in IPA. But you can still brush over the board where the digitizer connects to the LCD.

I use a hair dryer to clear off the IPA after a second rinse. But as Jim mentioned, don't heat the mic & earpiece as there's very thin plastic inside that will melt.

The 'official' LCD (display) ships with the touch screen & lens as one sealed unit.

I have changed these on smaller Samsung's and the glue is pretty tough stuff. You could end up breaking the LCD in the struggle to get it off. You've been warned!!

It depends how much the 'bit cracked' worries you?
