You can even use a old Dm500c cable receiver. Obv you wont get a feed connected as it has a cable tuner but it will act as a server and share.

Yep, you can use pretty much use anything as a server if you put your mind to it. An old dreambox is ideal but an old PC is also usable. If you really want an interesting project then you can even build your own unique server using one of the many microcontrollers available - done properly you could have a server thats not much bigger than the card !
