Ah maybe you might be of some help then, any idea what is wrong with the box I have bought (second hand) has it had it? It is an ex sky box (pace) when connected I get the majority of the free to air channels but some are missing i.e god channels etc. I have another box identical and it is perfect, so is the one I installed for a neighbour, tried resetting by 4 0 1 and backup. It asks for card on these staions..but they should be there without as they are FTA. Any suggestions?
      Thanks .......your first challenge...

Do they do literacy tests before you can work for them at sky? Just wondered :-)

                    Simple task:
When a skybox doesnt work properly anymore and a service engineer comes to replace it, he goes into a "secret" menu and is able to copy the recorded films on a portable hard drive and uploads them in the new replacement sky box. I just want to do half the way: from sky box on portable hard drive. What do i have to do?

best while your package is still live is to rec to dvd or vcr before you cancel.

I'd love to hear paulmansky saying that. One Sky sales man told me the engineers do it regular and he did it himself too, and the engineers code vyou need for it would be to look up in the internet. So for now, I tend to believe the sky man more than one pessimist here who just claims it wont work.
I wonder if there are any other "secret" menus in the service section apart from "01" or "001" gonna check it out as soon I have the next opportunity.

By the way, it is not about a package which has expired, it is about a full hard drive in the sky box and I dont want to delete movies I'd like to watch later again only to make space for new recordings. I have plenty of storage possibilities but no portable DVD recorder. And the "old" way to copy by playing it and recording the outgoing signal with a video recorder is too time consuming and prehistoric. Eventually the sky box is nothing but a computer with a hard drive. One should be able to copy this hard drive.

                          Thanks for reading

recordings made from subscription channels and stored on the sky hard drive they are encrypted and only de-crypted upon playback

copy your recordings over to a pc you have to do this in real-time

there is software package called Copy+
                            it dont work

there is no other secret menus
