I use a sat beeper , an old digital sat receiver with free sat channels on it , and a tv connected by phono cables

that way you hear when you are close to a satellite , and can see and hear which one by checking sat channels

any sat finders I have used are useless , apart from the professional ones that cost hundreds

Hi. 60 cm dish you are looking at satellites HOTBIRD 13 EAST , ASTRA 19.2 EAST, FREESAT 28.2 EAST, SIRIUS 4.8 EAST, ATLANTIC BIRD 5 WEST and not much else that i can think of. It all depends on what you are after. I always say that if you want to motorize your system you should have a 1 - 1.2m dish. Good luck.

And to add to the wise advice above, a good quality 80cm dish might usually always out perform a cheapo 1m dish..

I'm after the Saturday 3pm footy when it dosnt show on sky sports or espn, i not a clue wich sat tha is, but I might aswell go 80cm if that's wot it will take, and if i don't need a motor to get that, I wiuldnt bother, I'm only gettin setanta Irish setanta 1, diffrent now,
So yea it's just the sat 3 pm games,
                    And I think it's a whole diffrent subscription ? I'm not sure.
                    Do I still need motorised

saturday 3pm EPL football is never on sky sports or espn and hasnt been for 20 years as there is a ban in place on showing it

the problem here is that most "foreign" channels are scrambled so one of your diffficulties is overcoming the encryptions

on top of that its shown on over a dozen satellites with various encryptions , so depending on how you decode it will also mean that determines which satellite you point a dish at

there is no easy answer to this , so the trick is to keep every option open by maximising the choices and availability

so to get the footy you really have to go the whole hog and not limit anything at all , and the 80cm option is more for the southern part of the uk , the further north you go ( or west ) and the bigger dish that is required

so ideally you get a motorised dish that can swing from 39 east to 30 west , and I would also recommend a spiderbox HD to get you started too , as it has the inbuilt gift channels ( or maybe a protek instead )

that way you get footy on the following satellites

                      30w
                      0.8w
                      13e
                      16e
                      19e
                      28e
                      39e

then if you add a c line you may get others on the same satellites above , or on other satellites like 5e or 10e , or feeds

for your dm800 you need a really good c line to decode 99% of what is out there and available to you by cs

no its not simple , nobody said it was , but those are the facts and usually a fixed dish just wont cut it , although using complicated fixed dish setups can cover several satellites , but only a motorised dish will do what is required here , and certainly not 60cm as 80cm or higher is what you need

60cm or lower is only any good for a fixed dish setup on 1 satellite only , so little choice there

Maybe it's something for the future maybe....
I need to just be happy with what I have
