Viasat blank screen at weekend for 3pm ?

I have just been send a message off a mate i chat to on MSN that states that original Viasat STB's and cards were showing a blank screen at 3pm yesterday....I also noticed that todays 3pm match between Stoke and Everton was also a blank screen on TV2 PL @ 1 west....Anyone noticed this or is it just coincidence ??

No not a coincidence i have also read loads of posts of similar blank screens with official cards and subs, It's my guess that viasat have a good idea which subs have been sold in the UK to pubs and clubs and so have been pressured to put a block on them.

From what i read it only affected the Latvian and Lithuanian subs, But i also saw someone post that an official Norway sub went off as well.

I dont know legally where people stand if they have paid over 2 grand for a sub, and then its not showing 3pm footy....Or even ave the card turned off.....i am guessing they dont get a refund ?

It was not just the UK market that went off, it was all cards in Lithuania aswell so i doubt it has anything to do with pubs & clubs alone.
It is a more wider problem.

Hi. as it stands if you have brought an OFFICIAL viewing card anywhere in the eu you have a legal right to use it anywhere in the eu. This includes the 3pm footy. This is the reason why the pub lady won her case.

That ruling is correct for personal home use but as many are aware the main viasat customers in the uk are Pubs and Clubs which broadcast to the general public.

The ruling so far has yet to be completed in full by the 16th of december at which time we will all have a full understanding of whats legal and whats not.

At the moment the EPL still have a ruling in place that bars anyone from screening there logo's and theme title music as well as replays with the EPL logo attached which as you are aware is shown in either the top left or right hand corner of the screen

Hi. My understanding is that under the EU rules there is no difference between the general public and the business sector. There is one single rule for everybody. Also if i am correct the court case is based on the image rights rather than the usage. Basically what SKY were trying to say is that if you want to watch Italian, Greek, Spanish, French channels, whether it was films or sports, it was illegal in the EU zones. This is rubbish as you can watch english channels anywhere in the EU and SKY cannot stop it. Regards.

As an installer I have had lots of calls over the weekend about Viasat boxes that I have sold , I was told by my supplier that it was an issue with the main computer in Latvia that was causing the issues I managed to get my customers to watch the game by coming to the tv guide and selecting the channel ie 101 ,102 etc and the channel came on but if they just inputted 101 etc on the remote the screen was blank

                          Thanks for the advice Gibbo74.

I too have installed about a 15 of these over the past few months & my phone never stopped over the weekend.

Strangley enough, all the Tring ones were perfect.

If it's not one provider going off, it's another.

I have dealt with the Lithuanian Viasat so not Latvian but it could be the same problem so i will try the method you suggested to see if the screens come back.

                          Many Thanks

Yes, all Viasat Lithuania had the same , even INSIDE
Lithuania including domestic households so i am not sure
if the Premier League or Sky had anything to do with this or not.

It's interesting to note that the Latvian ones had the same problem but a solution was found.
