Hi. The only way out for SKY is to give the 3pm matches to non EU countries only. At this stage nobody really knows because it also depends on contract arrangements with Euro broadcasters, advertisers etc etc. I am sure that SKY will not be happy in paying out millions of pounds in compensations. Regards.

              Hi Gibbo74

I cant comment on the Chelsea game but Xtra PL 1 was meant to show Apoel v Shahktar but that did not happen as it just said it is blocked.

I had an email from my Viasat supplier in Lithuania & he said that no cards had been blocked & no contracts had been broken & Viasat are not even aware of any problems.

I really can't understand how they can say this.

              They must know something.

Why does everyone keep mentioning sky.

It's nothing to do with sky. It is all down to the english premier league they own the rights.

What's Happening now is that the rights are about to be
re-negoiated and the fact that sky dont have monopoly on EPL in the UK (as you can buy a foreign card) means they won't bid as much this time round, which then means the EPL lose what was considered guaranteed revenue.

Sky are not allowed to show 3pm games in the UK. The EPL stop them.

Sky's only involvement is that they will be threatening the EPL that if they don't sort this foreign card issue in the UK then they will bid far less this time round.

Once again sky don't own EPL all over the world, but as they are the biggest single bidder for rights they can put the presure on.

Hi. What do you mean its got nothing to do with SKY??? Where do you get your SKY box and viewing card from?? What about SKY in ITALY, GERMANY, SPAIN etc. Who controls them? As for the EPL they must be stupid if they think they can allow 3pm games all over the EU but not the UK , they must have known that this was UNLAWFUL. SKY and EPL allowed this unlawful practice to continue for many years. Regards.

I meant 3pm being turned off is not directly down to sky. As for unlawful ive no idea but that's the agreement sky signed.

I agree sky own a lot of countries rights including italy, uk, Germany. They don't own all of them the EPL own them.

Viasat buy broadcasting rights from EPL , so it will be the EPL who have terminated the rights more than likely due to breach of contract .

My guess is that with sky being the epls biggest client, sky put a lot of pressure on to get what they want.

My point is sky cannot directly stop ANYONE else who has purchased Rights from broadcasting them.

Yes exactly. That is what the EU judgement was about. It had nothing to do with who owned what rights. It had to do with HOW they were being broadcasted across the EU. You CANNOT have people in ROME PARIS MADRID ATHENS etc watching 3pm matches but NOT in LONDON LIVERPOOL GLASGOW MANCHESTER etc. The 3pm matches should have been made available to EVERYONE. That is what the judgement was about, NOT who owned the rights. To be honest i have been saying it for years that i dont know why pubs etc in this country did not take the EPL/SKY to court a long time ago. Regards.

Did it go back to being blocked again after the game ?

My supplier has ruled out the possibility of this being just the pre paid cards going off as Pre Paid cards are still ok
                            & NOT blocked in Lithuania.

There was talk about somehow but not Viasat , but who ever is behind this (EPL ?), that they can know where your box is & if it is found to be in UK, it somehow gets blocked but not by Viasat as they allow people to take their boxes to other EU countries.

I guess we can answer that theory buy taking one of our boxes say back to Lithuania or Latvia & set it up there on a dish to see if it remains blocked or not.

Then we can rule that out if nothing changes, but if it clears, we then have our answer.

I have asked for a re-activation signal to be sent to a box again even though it is already active to see if that may clear the problem.

How can they know where the box is? Unless the card is reported as being in UK from a seller/viasat.
Taking it back to latvia etc would be fruitless as the card just receives emms and does not know where it is.
