    Motorised sky dish

    Hello all,

I'm very new to satellite, just bought myself a new dream box 800se, I'm in the process of setting this up but I intend to run this box in addition to my sky hd box.

I hadn't really thought about a motorised setup yet but I'm seriously considering going to maplin tomorrow avnd buying their ?40 motor. I'm wondering if this will be worthwhile with the current sky mini dish, I'm in northern Ireland so using zone 2 (I think). I don't know exactly what satellites I'm interested in yet but it would be for football, so I think 13e and 19e. I read sky it is the place to go and I will get extra English movies too.

Bigger dish would be a problem with the neighbours I think.

    Thanks

wont work with mini dish. You will need a bigger dish to get the better sats. If your lucky you'll get 19e on a small dish but onlyt a few channels. Only option is go big. As they say bigger is better. As for your dm800. Its small but really good if you know how to use it. Which kind of knocks the big theory on the head.

P.S Dont use maplin they are expensive.

cant use your current dish on a motor. just buy an 80cm round dish (doesnt look much bigger) and then you can get all channels on 28e 19e 13e on a few good ones on 0.8 and you'l be sorted. dont use maplins as u can get dish and technomate motor on ebay

You can adapt both the 58cm and 43cm sky dish to work on a motor it's not easy but it can be done, For ease of use though it is probably preferable that you source say a TD54 if you think the neighbours may complain, This will fit easier on the motor and will get you plenty of sats dependant on your location and view of the ARC

Absolute waste of time getting anything below 80cm in your location if you want to pick up a good choice of sats.
Yes you can motorise a sky dish, you can also put football boots on peter crouch but both are useless

LOL just thought i would give the OP an option, If the neighbours kick up a fuss got to agree with Manic01 though an 80 - 1m would be a better option though.

Its not up to the neighbours what size dish you put up,planning regs in england allow 2 dishes 1 up to 60cm and 1 up to100cm without consent unless a listed building or in a conservation area and I would have thought Northern Ireland would be the same so its worth a check, sticking a motor on a sky dish is a waste of time wherever you live.

                  Thanks for all the replies.

been looking on gumtree and someone is selling big dish and motor for ?40. Might just buy it and see if I get any complaints. More likely to get abuse from the wife but the neighbours might have a comment to make too!

If I were to set up a motorised dish would it be possible to have quad lnb, 3 feeds would be for our sky hd and sky box, the 4th would be for the dreambox. I would just have to remember to have it return to 28.2 after I finish with the football. If a series link were to get messed up I would be killed. I know 2 dishes would be best but there is no way that will happen.

yes you can , although I bet you will mess up and not return it to 28e at some point , so better to leave the current setup on sly and maybe put a motorised one up for the rest , even if its the clear one

the other option depending on how many sats you want could be a bigger fixed dish with multiple lnb,s on it like the wavefrontier , or a triax td88 with multi lnb rack , and use a quad on 28e , and diseqc switch to switch satellites

                      this would work ok for 28e , 19e , 16e and 13e for instance

Christmas is finally over, I have made my decision and I'm going to go for a 2nd dish like you recommended.

I rang around and got speaking to a few installers, generally they are looking for ?300 to install a 80cm dish with motor, I think this is a bit of a crazy price so I'm going to do it myself.

I have been looking on ebay and have found a few different packages but I don't really know what I'm looking for. Would anyone be kind enough to recommend one to me, I think I will probably go for up to 1m.

According to the installers I spoke to Thor is the satellite I should be most interested in but from all the things that I have read so far I thought the best was 19e for Sky Italia? I know most people get this setup mainly for football but I am interested in having access to extra decent english speaking channels, movies etc too.

                        Thanks again

I would go for (Prices approx)
                              TD110 cm dish ?70
                              Dark motor metal gear ?55
                              Inverto black ultra lnb ?15
                              T&K Brackets + Pole ?25
                              RG6/CT100 cable connectors etc ?25
Total approx ?190, can be done cheaper if you shop around.
