Blad BM7000s Rare Standby Problem... Help ?

Hi all, I hadn't noticed the latest fw being busy with Xmas etc...

I seem to have got 'that' standby problem but its been great for 3-4 months. I was watching it at the time and it seemed to just go to a blank black screen. All that displays on the front now is one flashing red led at the bottom.
Nothing happens when you turn it off/on whatever way...
I tried putting the older and latest fw's to a usb each on their own and tried booting from it but to no avail.

Has anyone got a remedy please ?

    Thanks in advance

Try factory reset by switching off the box at the back then hold down the menu button on the front of the box, then I switched the box back on whilst still holding down the menu button. Then you will see something appear, press option 4 on your remote this is factory reset and it shouldn't even take a second to restore.

Ok once that's done you'll need to put in your USB with the new firmware at the back of the box and go to Utilities download the firmware as you would have before.

Note you will lose your c-line when you reset so make note of it before you do so you can put it in once reset is done.

Do you mind me asking what firmware you were on just before the Blade broke down?

I'm sure I read somewhere (perhaps a different forum?) that the old f/w is likely to cause this problem and that the new f/w, 05-10-11-7ex addresses this problem (apparently).

Thanks for replying folks, The last version I put on was the '122p fw'. I can't find the name in full, sorry, its on my usb stick at another location so I cannot give details but it was a popular fw.

I will try booting while holding the menu button and get back to you with any findings. If that fails it looks like sending it back, just can't believe it went down Crimbo day ,

When/if I send the unit back, will I face any problems by having that patched fw on the box at the time ? I mean like, invalidating my warranty ?

If you do try and use the RS232 cable, you'll need this:

              Code:
              http://www.blademedia.tv/files/bm7000s/STBTool.exe
I don't know if this will work but good luck! This standby problem has happened to at least one other person.

My theory is this problem occurs to those running f/w before the October release but I'm not sure and there's no way I can prove that.

                hi
if you can get to the boot menu by holding down the menu button and powering on at rear switch you should be able to flash with newer patched firmware i dont think there is any field cures yet with seriel cable

the two boxs customers give back to me would not let me get to the boot menu so i sent them back for replacments

Am I right in thinking that the file above will work to communicate through a null modem lead like the old Ddigital box ?
Or is it for use using an RS232 with Hyperterminal and TPTP32, set my baud rate settings correct then I'll see something in Hyperterminal ?

                  Thanks in advance

@psycho01: Sorry but I'm not sure what the exact process is regarding the usage of the RS232 cable.

I would assume that STBTool communicates through the lead providing you have the appropriate drivers installed etc (and the relevant PCI card?).

Do you have a normal RS232 cable or those USB to RS232 cables?

Do post the results of your attempt at flashing through STBTool.

Before doing that, try the instructions here if you haven't already done so and if it doesn't work, try again (stay hopeful!)

I contacted Blade about the flashing LED and they say it's a PSU fault.

Is this issue contained to a faulty batch or is it widespread? Is this PSU problem specific to any particular firmware releases?

Can you replace the Blade PSU just like how one can replace a computer's PSU?

I wouldn't know if it's a batch or individual problem, I would suspect if a faulty batch there would be many more posts about it on forums.

You can change the PSU just like many other cable & Satellite boxes. IIRC, there are 4 screws holding the PSU to the chassis and a ribbon cable to the mainboard with a plug connecting the mains lead/switch to the PSU. If you get a replacement PSU, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to exchange - do be careful that everything is unplugged and discharged before you start though.
