Aye but kill EPL's spending power, leading to SKY refusing to purchase/rent from EPL and making EPL less attractive and competitive and unable to compete with Spanish/german/italian teams therefore ending up like SPL !!!!
Sky react to pub ruling

I was told of a pub in Ireland that had a very realistic sticker on the screen with a pint glass, only noticable when the TV was switched off at kicking out time
.
It could be fairly easy with an enigma box to display a glass with a few mods to the skin. However, I am told the pint glass keeps changing during the day so a "booze spy" will know if the glass is legit or not.

pubs are not using linux boxes well majority of them are not, they are using official receivers and cards, but most of these are for domestic use not commercial use,its a big catch 22 senario the pubs can show football from whoever but not if they break copyrights that belong to the epl and i would think showing a domestic setup in a commercial premises will have ramifcations toComment

In theory that may be true but the practice is far from that with the allowed exceptions list being almost as long as the treaty itself. ALL EU countries restrict trade with the other EU partners to some extent.
In the UK, for instance, there are still fairly restrictive customs laws which severly limit the free import of goods from other member states. Both France and Germany also restrict lots of goods from partner countries.Comment

There seems to be far too much emphasis on this 'pint glass' stuff. Forget it, thats only a sky device and isn't particularly important in the main issue.
What is important is the public performance rights. If you wish to show an event at a public gathering (ie a pub) then you MUST have the rights to do so granted by the rights holders or their authourised agents. A domestic (ie a normal subscriber in their own home) does NOT have the rights to display material publically - that includes foreign domestic subscriptions.
Purchasing public performance rights from another source is obviously a different thing entirely. This is partly what is being hotly debated by the EU at the moment - whether a rights holder has the power to impose geographical limitations to its agents thus restricting who they can legally sell to. Unfortunately for the EU, this particular power for rights holders is already part of international copyright treaty law !Comment

a different subject but on the same lines
a friend of mine works in a charity shop as a volanteer and she used to listen to a radio in the shop, but she has been told that she can not play any music in the shop because they need a entertainment licence, because people that come in the shop will be listening to the music and that it is ilegal without a licence
and the charity shop will not buy a licence because it is a non profit making organisation
the law is an ass
