iv recently moved into a all satellite area and previously was using the open media 500cs for receiving cable.
1st question. I live in the North (Middlesbrough) and i was going to get a 85cm dish. Will that be adequate enough or shud i get the 1m. Just think the 1ms a bit big for the house
.
Secondly im not sure what set up will be best ie the most reliable, get most channels etc and im not yet sure all of the ins and outs of how it all works as satellite looks miles more complex than cable. Would appreciate ppls opinions and help.
Would i be best to get the diablo cam and programmer baring in mind its ?150 (is it worth it etc) or give card sharing ago (baring in mind i dont have a subscription so might struggle to get some good clines) OR would just using cccam be good enough (do i need a sat card for this)
What im afta is pretty much the basic sky channels eg music, entertainment channels etc and some sports and movies.
Could someone please advise me on what i would get out of each option and what would be best.
cheers
I personaly woud not spend a penny on anything at the moment, Conax are due to change there version of encryption soon, Duolabs have made no comment on any new hardware but it would be a good time for Duolabs to cash in on the situation if there contract with providers continues as it is, if the encryption changes are to discourage providers from selling on there keys to Duolabs and other card manufactures none of these products will continue to open conax encrypted channels.
As I have said before now is not the time to invest in any thing for this hobby as we are in very uncertain and Transitional situation concerning encryptions, If Nagra3 is not opened its likely Conax will become the likely target for EMU/Keys without the need for expencive hardware, If Nagra3 is opened we also will not need Expencive hardware such as Duolabs products, Dont waste your money untill later on this year.

As with any Duolabs product there only interest is in making money from us enthusiasts, the misconception of duolabs cam is that it hackes channels, no it don't the provider wishing to increase subscriptions sells the codes to duolabs who use there form of encryption on there hardware to open the providers channels in a controled fashion.
I do not know the reason behind Conax changing there encryption as it has been rather safe up to now whit very little been opened over the past few years, but the reason could very well be to stop the reselling of the encryption to the likes of Duolabs and a handfull of card manufactures that are illeagley opening conax encrypted channels, even thought the providers are supplying the codes to these third party companys.
The other reason for this encryption change could be because Duolabs have now gone comercial with there set top boxes, a pivitale part of this industry is set top boxes & chip manufactures in alignment with the encryption companys (not the providers) if this is case Duolabs would have to pay directly to conax for the codes & not the provider.
You must remember no encryption company takes likely there encryption been opened especially by a third party company in cahoots with certain providers who are making financial benefits from this practise. The providers have no businness selling on codes to these companys, as I have added below a advert by Duolabs activaly seeking Providers.
If you are a content provider, broadcaster, CAS provider and you want your own customized CAM for HDTV solution do not hesitate to contact us. Developers Kit is available to write securely your application.
Drivers, Application Notes and Developing Stuff are already developed for your convinience and to have the shortest time to market.
Duolabs is providing the full production chain from the programming/testing tools for internal and outsourcing production, development enviroment and the needed support for you to reach the goal of having a working CAM in the shortest time ever.
Taken from Duolabs - Products
This is my reason for not spending any money on any product for this hobby at the moment, its far to unstable to recommend products to any fourm members regarding Cards, Receivers & Cams wait untill every thing settles down before you spend your hard earned money, these companys know when your screens go blank (Nagravision 3 hits in) you will run off to spend your money, all I am trying to point out is Duolabs life expedancy of current products could very well be short lived.

If you must go for a Technomate receiver then the 9100 HD is the best option, it has got Linux, is PVR ready, a CI-slot and a lot of alternative images support them.
For a Diablo you need a CI, so it should be compatible in the near future.IP Box HD 9000 2xS2 tuner
