I would advise buying a HD box anyway, even if your TV does not have a HDMI or component input for HD , as it gives more choice of channels than any SD receiver
you do not need to own a HD tv in order to watch HD channels, they are perfectly watchable in SD using scart or composite or rf, and there are many HD channels not available as SD on some satellites
a HD box is a much better option and I would not buy any sat box that wasnt HD
when I test a sat box I always use yellow/red/white composite in SD composite mode at my workstation, no matter if its SD or HD, it gets the same treatment when I flash it or test it, and only when its in its final resting place does HDMI get involved if its a HD box
it seems to me part of the problem here is that the OP wants a ferrari enzo for the price of an old austin allegro, and wasnt to do 200 mph plus in it as well, with a magic petrol tank that never runs dry, never needs filling up and is exempt from road tax and insurance and yearly mot,s
in other words he wants everything for nothing
(or next to nothing)
