As the title says i have acquired a 110 triax dish that came bundled with a stab motor (?50.00 the lot), i will be in the process in replacing my 90cm dish and brackets etc, but not sure which motor to use the technomate 2100 or stab rotor 120, or should i say which is the better one ?

the stab motors are the best usals motors available today and walk all over the tm,s imho although believe it or not i actually have a technomate stab 100 here, regards mdtDM800HDSE SIM 2.10. SSL84D OPEN-ATV ORBITAL 80CM/DARK MOTOR/IBU/53E-30W -

Thanks for the info guys but i dont have a dark motor but what i here is to go with the stab 120 ? and when you say that the slab motor is sluggish are they really much slower than the tm 2100.

Hardly used he had the dish up for about 4 months and had to move house and had it all sitting in his garage and he said he hardly used it.Depends if that motor you acquired is worn or not?
Cheers.... So is there much in the speed difference ? ie double the time to move from one sat to another.I have found that speed tests indicate the following order with the darkmotor the fastest
1) darkmotor
2) technomate motors
3) stab motors
my old stab motor became very worn with a lot of play in it, the others havent as yet

yes there is on my spiderbox , especially as the stab and the techno stop and start a lot unless using diseqc mode
the darkmotor superior seems twice as fast in both usals and diseqc modesComment

i guess its all down to personal preferance and mine is for the stab... i do agree that they are slower than the tm/darkmotor but you get a 3 year warrenty with the stab and the spiggot is facing upwards which gives you that extra 6 inches of hieght. ill bet the extra money for the stab is in part that its the only official usals certified diseqc motor and not to mention i find them easier to install when up a ladder. i dont actually use my stab anymore as it threw a wobberler about 9 months ago after 4 years of moving my td110 and still doesnt have any play in it but it went to 70e and refuses to move but im 90% sure that it was my fault due to me constantly changing/testing stb,s. the general train of thought nowadays is that the darkmotor is the best usals motor available but i like the stab motors and always have, regards mdtDM800HDSE SIM 2.10. I agree, I actually like the HH90 [if you could get a good one], the HH120 is geared down compared to the HH100 & hh90's - it is the slower of the Stabs but with that gearing down you could hang a [sheltered] Channel Master 1.2 on a HH120 & before the Datkmotor, plenty of exposed TD1.1s were.
All the Stabs are very good at stopping on any satellite right where you put it - the Darkmotors too now, the Stabs use a big spring to center on sat & to take some wind loading off the gears - they feel as though they have play new but as you let go they spring back to the center of the sat. Even a completely trashed one we saw that some clown had installed on an aerial pole over a gable end with a 1m orbital on [don't need to explain what happened] ... even trashed & wobbling round - it still parked on every sat perfectly.
It's the high price- it let cheap Moteck motors etc.. take their market from them & now there's the Darkmotor taking Moteck's ..
btw.. almost any stb works with a stab in usals mode since they created usals so it's 100% even if the stb isn't they usually work, can't remember anything that didn't.
edit- sorry if that's cross posted - left on an edit screen while busy with something else..Last edited by pedro2000uk; 26 April, 2012, 21:00.Comment
