EPL matches. Best satellites to point to for 2012-2013 season?

    Hi All,

I am going to be installing a multi LNB setup in my new house, and feeding to a HTPC receiver (only supports diseqc 1.0 hence the multi-LNB option).

My main reason for the setup is to watch the Newcastle 3PM kick offs next season becuase by the time I install it this season will be over.

    My questions are:

1)taking into consideration I am interested in next seasons games, have the broadcasting rights been changed from this seasons? (ie. different channels will be showing the games next season).

    2) What are the best sattelites to point to with a 4LNB system? I have to point to 28.2 for my normal TV, so I know I am restricted as to what else I can stretch to.
    (I am considering 28.2, 19.2, 16 & 13).

    3) Which channels are best for getting English commentary?

    4) If the above is too hard to get hold of, what other solution do you recommend for a HTPC to get English commentary? An FM receiver PCI card, linked to VLC or something so I can timeshift and sync the audio?

    5) Any toon fans that can give me an insight into their setup and how successful / unsuccessful it has proven over this season?

    SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS!

times they are achanging m8 , so nobody can predict what will happen in the 2012-12 season

and the EPL are tendering for a complete shakeup for the 2013-2014 season and afterwards anyway, and also 3pm,s are banned so I suspect trhere wont be any or many of those either

english language is now a rarity and a luxury you cannot expect any longer and there is another long thread about it on here too, but I suspect it will become less and less and is already doing so in the current season, never mind future seasons

for a fixed dish setup its likely that what you have chosen is as good as any

but also consider 39e , 10e , 5e and 0.8w as well if its possible to get any of those instead (or as well)

my point is that with the EPL changes being made mean nobody will tell you what is probable, only what may be possible and even then its suck it and see, and watching football with non-english commentary is better than nothing at all

and whatever happened in the current season will be largely irrelevant come august and beyond

      Thanks for your reply.

English commentary isnt essential, but like you say would be a luxury.

The house doesnt have ANY dish at the minute, and I will need to at least install a 60CM dish pointing at 28.2 for normal TV. I thought while I am at it I might aswell change it to a 1m dish and multi-LNB system as it isnt really that much extra money and work.

If it doesnt work then it doesnt work, we cant really complain can we

I think the EPL will lose out on a lot of money by cutting foreign showings of 3PM matches. I cant see them gaining from it at all because a lot of foreign broadcasters will just not bother signing up.
Then again they dont think about it financialy they just dont like people doing things they shouldnt be doing

To be honest the only reason most people do it is because they want to watch their favourite team play, not because it is cheaper etc.

If there was a channel on sky that showed EVERY SINGLE newcastle match of the season, I would happily pay around ?200 for the year.

Instead all we get is 2 footy channels that show 4/5 matches a weekend. In total about 8 of newcastles 38 games.

        WE HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS!

hardly the fault of sly though is it ?

any recent changes were brought about due to people paying for nova and art and premiere germany and sly italia, not sly uk or setanta or espn for that matter

sly can only bid for some of the licenses, not all , and in aany case it was the EPL that banned 3pm games 20 years ago and so nothing to do with sly either

there are many posts on these topical subjects on the forum here so plenty for you to read, but nothing will tell you the future apart from that bbc news article which I had just read prior to your post on here

yes its a good idea to go for a bigger dish at 1 metre and get 4 lnb,s , have a similar system myself, but what I pick up on that system is varied and never covers all eventuialities

to get more options you need a 1 metre motorised dish, that is a fact

and you need cs which we dont talk about on here

there is an article on the bbc news website today that talks about their planned changes , http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17950726 ,
but if you are such an ardent fan you should be actually going to the games and not be sitting in your comfy chair at home

Interesting to read that no one bidder will be allowed to show more than 116 games..

As for going to the match, well thats all well and good if you live close to your teams ground. Ticket prices, cost of fuel etc.. not everyone can afford this.

I saw that article on the BBC site earlier. I am more interested to see what happens on the European rights rather than UK.

                  Wouldnt it be lovely

except the fact that for a decent season ticket alone that only covers home games is around ?600! thats not taking into account the cost of fuel. and for away games accomodation.

Your looking at upwards of 2-3k a year to get to every game!

                  Maybe 1 day .

Realistically though, none of us can complain if they change things. Its out of out hands. I am sure there will be another way around things... there always is

Yeah I am definately going for a 1m dish. If the start of the season draws closer and the matches arent going to be shown on the satellites I have selected, is will only be a half hour job to switch to another satellite. worth it

Get a motorised dish mate. The epl will be shown by foreign providers regardless....wheather you get to see all of the Newcastle games...that's a different kettle of fish.

Motorised dish will give the best chance I of seeing the variety of games that will be...

Only problem is that I want to use my HTPC to do it. My card only supports diseqc1.0 (ie non motorised dish). I dont want to replace the card yet as it is only a few months old and cost quite a bit.

I dont understand whats so funny. I wouldnt like to travel from newcastle to london (5 hours) and then back in the same day, I doubt many other people would too. Especially at 8PM kick off in mid week games.

Hi. A couple of points regarding football.
                            1) In Italy you can actually watch all the games for any team you like throughout the season home or away.
                            2) Regarding European rights problem is SKY/EPL cannot allow 3pm games to be shown throughout the EU and not in the UK. This is a tricky one due to the single market rule. You cannot have different rules for different countries. I think this is the reason why the pub lady won her case. She had the right to watch same programs as people in other parts of the EU. SKY cannot tell her what she can and cannot watch . It will be interesting to see what happens next season.
                            Regards.

                              is irrelevant m8

you could quite easily fit a motorised dish with twin or quad lnb, and have one feed to a box like an old tm1500 controlling the motor , set it onto a satellite of your choice , and have feed 2 going direct to the htpc card, so the cheap sat box controls the motor and the second feed is feeding your htpc which then gives your htpc access to each and every satellite you can pick up
