I am afraid that rule does not apply any more and has not done for some years if you are a new subscriber the no matter what length of contract you have with Multi-room both boxes must be connected to the telephone line at all times.
I have seen cases where people have had multi room for X amount of years and have unplugged the lines and nothing has been said if your in that position then you are one of the lucky ones.
Just a case in point a while back when i subbied for them i went to a few jobs where people have had multi-room for quite a number of years and after the initial 12 months took out the phone lines, These customers wanted another Multi-room install when i explained that i would have to reconnect all boxes and run a new line to the new box they told me to you know what, after informin CS i was told under no circumstances to install the new box and leave.
