thought it looked like it was pointing far to high. That must be the problem then.

So shud i tilt less so its just pointing up a bit, power motor to thor and put on bbc world, then attach the sat finder between lnb and rec and this shud pick up some sort of signal ready to fine tune.

do you think thats why i was getting no signal at all and no movement on sat finder before caus of the elevation being too high?

once iv got a good signal on thor should it be fine for all of the other sats?

thanks for all the advise maybe i will be able to help total noobs to sat like me in the future

ryan, have a look at this SatEuropa.co.uk: DIGISAT MULTI was thinkin about gettin my own meter it would prob be a good investment and they are more accurate and reliable than the beep ones, ive one of those and couldnt get a sig from thor on it to save my life

put if on thor bbc world channel move the bracket on the dish so its more or less straight
            not pointing at the moon
            point the dish due south
then move the dish slowly west till you get a picture hopefully

Your dish needs to be more vertical rather than pointing up to the sky. If you are not sure than check out my dish on the ground in the 'show us your satellite setup'. Those sat meters are a waste of time I got one as freebie with my dish and couldn't align anything to save my life.

Woof! Lower the elevation on the dish bracket mate..send it to sky and then make the elevation similar to that of your neighbours..
                Good luck..

hi m8....your a bit out of the way for me but i will try and talk you through it so you can do it yourself....
firstly you need to make sure your mounting pole is level in all directions...then mount your dish on the pole, without the motor for the time being, and lign it up to thor 0.8 west using your signal strength meter on your receiver,if you set your elevation to 30deg to begin with you will find thor quite easily..Source: Digital Kaos satellite dish installer west midlands
when thor is found tighten nuts up to keep elevation on dish, and mark with a marker pen the centre spot of the dish bracket on your mounting pole.......then you can take dish back down but dont mess with the elevation............
now we are ready to mount the diseq motor......
put the motor in place and centre the motor on the mark you have already from mounting dish previously,,,,and the motor is now perfectly set on thor.......................
now you can mount the dish on motor pole,,,,50mm from bottom of pole and no need to adjust elevation on dish cos its already set......now all we need to do is adjust the elevation for the diseq motor......set it at 30deg same as dish elevation and now your all done...you can search for other sats using the motor control on your receiver,,and if you follow this you will get it right first time without any messing about needed.....

                    ryan try this...

still cant get it going iv changed the elevation and no matter which way i move the dish the signal on bbc word doesnt go up or down. the SNR stays on 11% the AGC is on about 21% and flickers up or down slightly and the BER changes from 0 up to about 4450 and flickers up and down.

im not sure if somthings wrong with the set up or i am doing somthing wrong but surly when the dish is moved side to side the signal should change shouldnt it?

iv done a search on thor and got a lock on one transponder so the dish must be somewhere near. Should i just move slightly now to pick up other transponders? the one im locked on is transponder 12687/27500/H on thor but thats the only one

yeh m8 just touch it slightly in either direction i would use the sat finder if possible i find it straightforward to use tbh and it will save you getting up and down the ladder

then after you have got the srongest signal moving left and right tighten bolts and do the same for the elevation and tighten bolts you should then be optimised

how do you know its thor though do you have an instrument or are you just guessing its due south

if you are guessing i would girst try to get uk sky sorted first if you get that sorted properly your dish will move to thor anyways when you scan all satellites put a stellite xml in

btw where in stockton are you

im in ingleby barwick. Rite iv slightly adjusted but only can get a lock on that transponder. what i did is sent motor to thor then played around with it abit then did a scan and it picked up 1 transponder i then did a channel search for that transponder and it picked up 16. AB4, AB4, CINE First, CINE FX, CINE POLAR, FRANCE 2,3,4, Gulli, LUXE tv M6 NRJ12, O sport, TMC, Virgin 17, W9. There is no pic on them like but is that caus i havent loaded any emu and keys yet.

does this sound right. but when i move the dish slightly i still cant get a lock on other transponders they stay on about 20%

It is the motor with dish attached i should be moving left to right isnt it.

no you should be moving the dish not the motor to get lined up the motor should be in the correct position from the long and lat setting in the box but you will only get the correct alignment by moving dish only

if you dont get sorted by tommorow i may get chance to pop over i have too much on today
