Hey guys got the new motor today and it all seems to be working fine. so it looks like it was a faulty motor

now i just need some tips on using a satellite meter.

pointed to 0, then to 1w thor and chose bbc world news. listened to the meter whilst it was on 2db and it went high pitched, needle went as far as 7. lowered to 0db on the meter, this time i coul donly muster a 5 on the meter.

went back to the box only to see a frozen screen. i scanned through satelites on the satelite finder menu and only got a lock signal on eutalsat 9a. got 6 channels of which one was called bayernrische sud.

do you think i should leave it on this channel and tune from here? the snr im gettings is 52.

      Hi Guys

still having a problem with this. i alligned the dish to as close to south as possible. and did the usual point to thor bbc world service.

with the meter i was able to peak on 7 on the sat meter at 0 decible noise. when i goto check the STB. the signal is still barely registering, eventhough the meter is audible.

Ive attached the image from dishpointer. and included line of site obstacles, which is a school building 40 meters away. the building is roughly 10 meters high. my dish is roughly 5 1/2 meters off the ground, would this be causing a signal block?

my tuner is set to simple mode, positioner, long set to 0.025 east and lat set to 51.541 north.

The motor (tm2600) is set to 51.5 latitude and tightened at the equal inclination (so its not twisted.) the dish is set to 23.5.

again ive tried cycling through satelites, and the only satelite that gets a signal as mentioned earlier is eutelsat.

Ive also noticed that when ive sent the dish to astra 28.2 on the motor it looks like it goes past 30. (this is after i have done the goto 0)

STB VU+ Solo, blackhole 1.7.6 image.

If using usals you can set up on any satellite.
Set motor at zero, then send to 28.2e and try from there.
You will need to move the motor by hand and the dish slightly up/down till you get good signal.

I would not worry about the dial on the motor registering past the 30 mark when on 28.2? east as this is just a rough guide, You have plenty of clearance between your dish and the school building so that should be OK.

If you have anyone that can help you then it may be prudent to use your Solo as the meter on the satfinder function, So one person stays inside and monitors the level on the solo while the other makes the small adjustment on the outside to the motor and dish.

dont get bogged down with figures.using usals send the dish to a sat of your choice with an active TP and channel then unless you have a decent meter just useing the one in the box move the whole motor/dish assembly left/right and the dish elevation up/down to get max signal.you can then fine tune your longitude position in the box if needed but leave the latitude on both motor and box where they are.once done you should find all the other sats ok if your pole is plumb and the dish central on the motor spigot (subject to line of sight) if the bottom of your dish is 40mt from a 10mt building all is ok.

Thanks for the response guys, if you look at the nearest tree on the left, that is where my dish points for 28.2. 19 and 13 however the tree is probable 2 meters taller than where my dish is installed and is roughly 10 meters away. that wouldnt cause a problem would it?

I am going to lug the monitor on to the roof along with the STB and try from there.

My wife is just too impatient and whinges why its taking so long, she had onyl been watching the screen for 2 minutes.

I doubt it as a rough guide the bottom of the dish needs to be twice the distance from the obstruction as it is high.ie; tree 5 metres high you need to be 10 metres away from it.

JUst a quick update, lugged the box and monitor up on to the roof, and managed to get it tuned within 15 minutes. the sat meter wasnt really helping.

one strange thing i did notice was that, wen on the sat finder i wasnt getting great signal, and then i got fed up and nudged the dish and bang.. bbc world service appears, but still with low or no signal, really strange.

                  but its all up now.

is it true that you cant receive nilesat on a 110 dish?

you should be able to get AB7@7WEST with a td110. try 11.430.v 27500 to peak the signal using diseqc 1.2 in the menu,s. regards mdt
