sending sat picture to diff tv...cheapest option?

Hi my protek9600 is in my bedroom, i want to be able to watch it downstairs sometimes to (mainly when there is a match on)

i know i could get an av sender but they obviously cost money!

for now i dont need to change the channel downstairs, just leave the channel on upstairs and get the same picture downstairs.

    what is my cheapest option?

    thanks

    Either:

    1. A long coax cable out of the RF output to other TV
    2. A long Scart lead to the other TV
    3. A long RCA Phono Composite+Audio cable to other TV

Long Scart cable would be best picture quality, but difficult to route to other areas of a house.. Coax cable is the easiest and cheapest..

your cheapest option is to find an old vcr or get one somebody is throwing away, plug a scart lead from the sat box into it and select that scart input as the "source", and put the vcr onto an rf analogue channel between 21 and 69 that isnt in use in your area (experiment if you arent sure which one to use)

then one long rf coax lead from rf output socket to the tv aerial input socket downstairs is all you need, then just tune in the analogue rf signal on that remote tv on say channel 1 or channel 6 or 7 or any you like really

sky boxes use a similar idea with a built in modulator, you are using the vcr to change the signal from scart to analogue and sending that signal down the coax, which is something vcr`s did when analogue was common

good, I didnt know that as I never owned a protek , well its obvious them , its my method minus the vcr

but all the methods you listed are fine, but I suspect the coax method is the cheapest like you said nad mimics my alternative, so its even cheaper

and for anyone who hasnt got an rf modulator built in, use the vcr method if you want cheap as chips

            Thanks guys

Looks liek the coax cable will be the cheapest option then.

I have hada look on ebay but im not sure what type of connecter i need with it as some of the connecters seems different at the end?

            for example the one here:

25m DIGITAL COAXIAL AERIAL SATELLITE SKY COAX CABLE | eBay

seems to have a diff connector to the one here:

3m RF Coax Digital TV Television Aerial Cable Fly Lead Flylead Gold Extension | eBay

i will need about a 20 metre wire if that makes any difference?

            Thanks

You may be better of buying the cable separately and getting hold of the connectors also that is if its being fed through a wall. I have taken a photo of the different combination connectors you could use either 2 x Standard Aerial connectors and a Joiner or if you are going to use 'F' Connectors then 2 of those with one female and one male for either end.

Sorry that lost me abit mate

what cable to i need to buy exactly? and then the connecters you showed a pictures of, do i fit those to the wire myself? (how hard is that to do?)

And then i need one male and female? (that bit confused me!)

Well the link to fleabay you posted was 20m of coax cable with no end termination, So basically you would have to purchase the connectors separately. So as not too confuse you just buy 2 x standard RF aerial connectors and 1 coupler thats all you will need.

As for fitting very easy have a look at this guide:

                  Code:

i would think you have to tune tv into that signal as if the tv does not see it you cannot view it,when you receive the signal you will leave it on that station, change channel in other room changes this channel.
lower push in connector nearest to tv scart looking at image,as f connectors are for sat use only.

Thanks cactikid, sorry those pictures were not expandable so i have re-attatched them again here so you can see what im asking clearer....

                        (1) The first picture just shows the coax cable i bought and the connections it has on both ends.

                        (2) The 2nd picture is one of the connections that came with the converter (which came with the coax cable)

                        (3) The 3rd picture is the other connection on the converter

                        (4) The 4th picture is the back of my protek, im not sure where the coax is supposed to go (red or green circle?)

                        (5) The 5th picture is the back of my tv, the coax that goes into there already works with my sky box, when i remove this coax i lose my sky picture. I'm unsure if i should remove it and then put in my new coax running from the protek? Or do i need some kind of splitter that allows me to use both coax's at the same time?

I'm also unsure what channel is meant to pick up the protek picture?

I had a little play on the weekend but i couldnt get the picture from the protek working on the downstairs tv? So im not sure what im doing wrong here......

                        Thanks

the rf channel should be somewhere in your menu on the protek and adjustable between 21 and 69 , so you may need to select one not in use by sky or freeview or any analogue channels

looks to me as if the RED socket has a tv above it, so this would go to your tv and then the tv would be tuned in like the sky box already is

so what I would do is this

connect the outside aerial (if you have one) to the green protek input, then use the adapter and coax cable to go from the protek red output to the sky box rf input, then use the rf1 to go to the main tv and if using rf2 use that to go to a remote tv like in the bedroom where you can use a magic eye if necessary to use a sky remote to operate the box

my lad has a similar arrangement but using a spider 9000 instead of a protek

this way your outside aerial channels feed into the protek, pick up a protek feed, then go to the sky box to pick up the sky feed, then goes out to one or two tv`s

the main thing here is to daisy chain the boxes , dont use that Y splitter at all, and to select and use unused rf channels between 21 and 69 , in my case something like rf30 and rf40 are suitable but it varies across the country

selecting unused analogue channels will give less interference and so a better picture, and each box must have its own unique rf channel, and not one used by analogue or freeview channels either

                            Thanks mate

I had a good look behind the tv today to see exactly what was going on. Seems i stupidly had a normal male to female coax connecting my tv and sky box!

I have removed this wire now, and connected my sky box and my tv via a scart...this now connects via the AV channel and did not need tuning in...so sky works fine.

Now the ariel input into my tv is free and im able to connect the coax wire running from my protek into the tv without worrying about the sky picture (as this works on the AV channel)

when i go into the protek menu, system settings, RF mode is set to ok. The rf settings are like this:

                            system type: PAL/G
                            channel no: 40
                            RF out: STB

i have run the coax wire from the protek (green circle in below diagram) and connected it into the empty ariel socket in the tv (2nd diagram below)

i think this is wrong as this is male to male isnt it?

there is no outside ariel at all so sorry for the confusion.

i can either connect the tv to the AV output, which is currently showing sky, or to the "antenna" output....

i tried antenna AUTO SEARCH, and it just seemed to find loads of digital tv, freeview channels (as i think the tv has an inbuilt tuner)

then i tried TV MANUAL SEARCH (the menu is as follows):

                            storage: 1
                            system: 1 (DK, L , BG)

                            band: V/UHF (cable)

                            channel: 40

(anything in brackets are the other opitions available to me)

i did a search but nothing came up?

I think i have the coax connected into the wrong protek port dont i?

thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

normally its female output to male input, so yes male to male seems incorrect, and I did say earlier to use the RED output with the tv picture above it, on the protek, into the tv aerial input

looks like your protek is set to rf40, but I would think you can change it should you need to

and yes the sky should have been wired using scart to give RGB which is a better picture than rf
