looks like your protek is set to rf40, but I would think you can change it should you need to

and yes the sky should have been wired using scart to give RGB which is a better picture than rf

    thanks mate

so i would need a female to male converter in order to plug the coax into the red circled port on my protek?

The one i put in the picture above broke!

or use a female to male coaxial cable like from an old vcr
either will do the job, and they only cost pennies !

trouble is my old man decided it would be a great idea to drill holes in my bedroom wall, run the wire outside the house and back into the living room and seal everything up while i was out on saturday!

so now im stuck trying to make this work

i have just got myself a converter now so i can plug the coax into the red circled port on my protek.

i will try a scan later an let you know how i get on

        cheers mate

Finally got there!! thanks alot to everyone

ramjet, how much difference to the picture can i make in terms of going up or down 1 rf channel at a time?

40 was very grainey, 30 much better, 21 looked much like 30....

should i bother going through them all to get the best pic?

yes, although you can usually get the rf channels for your local transmitter on the web

            then avoid those completely

or just step through them and note down the best, then choose one of those good ones

all you can do is try,the protek has a grainy picture due to the broadcast output, even the hdmi model sees it,unless your on a 1080 picture,oh i was talking about hotbird , 28.2 should be ok but cant confirm.
