    Singapore satellite viewers in private?

Just curious. Who in Singapore is watching satellite stations via a satellite dish leh? I know we ain't allow but with satellite dishes shrinking in size and shape I think it is quite viable. What you think?

It's like - who owns a gun, please own up?
Why don't you try it out and let us know your findings?

I got the box but no dish loh. Tried connecting to my rooftop antenna but nothing turns up.

So I googled for dish and some look like some garden rock in shape and disgusing as a sat dish.

I tink many bros come here when there is an urge, I believe all these were posted 18mths or more ago with jpg of Dish and jpg of box in attachments. Pls refer back, I no repeat posting again.
Astro signal is very strong, so a 45cm dish ( quite small liao) is very good enuf. LNB just use Universal to 11.8GHZ.

I hv tested and the 30" Astro original Dish is BEST. MYR150
Nxt the 45cm Dish, RMB500 xclude shipping. from CN
Nxt the flat panel 22X18" USD450 from UK.
Nxt the mobile but vry Ex @ SGD1K. from M'sia.
all with LNB. Any more info, I may get mata-mata scanning my roof liao.

Cable already got so much noobies problem, Astro going to be more difficult. Pls post in the Sat section if need to discuss Astro.
Also, dont expect free IKS. All DB image there in DK Satellite works here in Sg or Msia, u hv 2 figure out how to catch FTA signal 1st, then the rest of the encrypted.
Make sure u can recvd RTM1, RTM2, TV3, RIA (101.102, 103, 104 etc) etc these r FTA, then u post asking yr problem. Dont come here and expect some1 give u all bells and whistles image then byebye from here. Make sure u also contribute back to new noobies with yr findings.

Remember the days of the fish-bone ant where we get some1 on the roof to turn it in diffierent direction to get the best signal to d TV in the hall? Sat is abt the same, hv to vary dish in different direction n position to get the best signal, but with a Sat meter abt S$100/-. ( at least now can talk to the guy on the roof with hp, mata short pant time, i hv to shout.) It is an expensive hobby, but the joy is from after you get most chn, ( i hv not bn able to catch all chn with DB). I too hv a legit sub box from Msia which I get HD chn to supplement chn I dont get from DB. If talk abt Astro HD with DB, 4get it, waste time.

Sat is more difficult like chicken and egg scenerio. First u must hv a dish pointing to the right direction. Without the properly setup dish, DB with image oso get no picture.
So u dont flash a DB image 1st then u try to find the Satellite location. It not that way it works. ie, u must hv a box already installed with a good image and knows it works, then you set up yr Dish. after which, noobies flashed box then seach for the signal. if not, u dont know whether yr image is at fault or yr Dish.
So dish 1st or Box 1st, I dont know, seek Master AstroBox help if u can. He has got most of the equipments required for a good Satellite setup. My tools are all hobbist version, very unprofessional.

tried already on hdb flat wont work because astro evolution almost 90 degree, al list u can fix at the garden side. FIY astro signal very strong signal and some of my friend using 50cm dish ok. Malasian satelite forum also do experiment using horn atenna + universal usb can work but not full channel can get.

                        ref. zcchmos's post,
Satellite hobbist take note not all Astro chn can get 24/7 due to weather and Ant properties. 45 to 50cm for Sg is very good enuf liao. I started from 60" to 12", found 45 to 50cm is best size and satisfactory reception here.
Many Bros asked why sometime so many freezing, it may not rain in Sg but some where in the Indian Ocean a thunder storm may b pouring. A good sat meter is a good reference to chk signal strenght when encounter such problem. It not like cable where the signal is almost constant and always avlb.

If Dish is wet from rain, poor reception too, poor reflected signal over dish surface.

small dish can hide... but if your balcony directly pointing to measaat 3 is ok. Remember before... can get Thaikom 5 just pointing from window because evaluation is 78.5 not like asto,,,but now Thailand just change their system..so pity

Sorry folks for posting (again) in the wrong forum. I tot this place is where most of my fellow Singaporeans are residing and that there ain't one forum catering for Singapore "satellite" enthusiasts but I maybe wrong too.

                            Anyway thanks for the feedbacks.

From my rooftop UHF antenna I can get TV2, TV3, TV7, TV8, TV9 and 2 blur blur Indonesian channels. CNA, Okto, U are quite clear though. Clearest are TV3 and TV8. TV2 is "weather dependent" - clearer on rainy days ironically.

Malaysia's TV8 is the best because it has many dialect programs sometimes faster than Mediacorp's Channel 8. My parents prefer TV8.

If I use a DVB tuner, I can get Channel 5 HD, Channel 8 and CNA, and many StarHub channels (sports) but unviewable and blank screens.

Naturally, I am curious what's available next from sats.

Yes master seed for astro is around that size & u have to get the right elevation /lnb skew & so on however some of my satellite forumer's friend tell me that astro beyond is weather proof, not sure what he meant, I guess it's the Ku lnb is different from the old astro white colour dish.
I haven't got any chance to see it for myself, the answer to your question is u got to have all the items in order to set up any signals from the skies above, but to me in SG I don't recommend it unless u're a hobbiest in this line like yourself master.
If Big green change to N3 u still have to subscribe if u want to watch their program so as astro which is NDS both so far no one has ever crack it only CS is the solution.
SH u just connect to their signal while astro u have to set up your own dish which is not easy & transparent to the authorities,so i would go with SH as i don't do CS as i'm using a 2 metre C band motorized dish where signal is much better than KU band.
Where do u think SH get all their signals?
