Thanks digicon. That is maybe what the issue is. I downloaded a channel list to my box and whilst a lot of the channels are encrypted the ones I can see either have sound or break up. Perhaps these are Nordic channels? I've only scrolled through a few channel pages so perhaps I can pick up the European beam as you say. I didn't realise the distances beween these satellite arrays was so big!
Any motorised dish installers in Belfast area?

I struggle with the 4.8 Nordic beam on an 80CM, it's far to choppy, some transponders are 0% SNR.Comment

think the point here is they are aimed at norway and so scandinavia, not northern ireland
and the smaller the dish the harder you will find it, but usually you get a few channels from most satellites, but better reception from ones aimed specifically at the uk or at mainland europe
so with 42e which is turkey you will get some but not all, and same applies to nordic channels too from 4.8e
all the arrays have a "footprint" and they can control the area !washed" by the signals, so the areas in the middle of the circles get better reception than those on the fringes
the age of the satellites is also a factor, as modern ones are more powerful, and some are near the ends of their useful lives and are used in ways that make fringe reception worse
you can see some discussions about it in this thread http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-4-8-a-314629/Comment

Hi folks, I am really struggling with the channel lists. It's a complete ball ache to set up! I'll tell you how far I've got and if you can help me I would be forever grateful! I've spent roughly a week trying to get a stable setup but so far nitto.
I use an Amiko Alien 2 box which basically has an Enigma 2 image. I've downloaded countless channel lists etc but the real problem I am having is how the channels work with different transponders. I don't know how to change these.
For example, on Hotbird 13E the first channel in the list is RAI. The Amiko is a dual boot box - the other image is called Spark which is very basic. On the Spark image I can get this channel no problem with about 75% SNR. On Enigma 2 the SNR drops to at best to 30% and I think it is because it is configured with a different transponder. If I use the satellite setup part and change transponder to 'auto' the SNR for the selected satellite goes up again to around 75% but it doesn't change the transponder for the channel and I have no idea how to do this!
Is any of this making sense? Sorry, I probably haven't explained it very well! Anyway if you know where I am going with this a few pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!Comment

yes i recommend Belfast Aerials ---Aerial-Digital-Solutions ask for Robert motorised dish installation is guaranteed to be done right or you do not pay email k:Hi guys,
Are there any motorised dish installers on here in the Belfast area? I need some help! I've just had a motorised dish installed and I'm not sure it is porperly aligned. We have been unable to pick up any channels from other satellites. I've tried following some guides about using USALS but so far no such luck.
My installer has now manually set the dish to Astra 28.2E and I am now getting a signal. I haven't tried searching again from here in case the dish loses this satellite and doesn't recover. Would really appreciate the help of an expert if there is someone available in and around Belfast area! Of course I am not expecting this for free so happy to pay if it can be fixed. Thank yoU!Comment

no not you andy91 if i was advertising for work in this forum then i would have posted info long time ago i was just pointing out that if you use an installer who lets on they know what they are doing when they say they can fit a motorised dish and it does not work right then they really should l.ook at sticking to just what they know the basics only ... any one can install a satellite dish all you need is a ladder and a drill and good solid common sense but motorised dish installation is a different ball game any good installer who knows what i am talking about here will agree with me . maybe we need a section in this forum about installation etc then people out there will not have to pay twice to get the job done right first time ... keep in touch andy91 and hope all is good . thanksComment
