    Dual Tuner Box

    Hi,

I'm looking for a HD Sat box that has the ability to install a Hard drive and with dual tuners that are of good quality.

I'm looking on something that offers as many bells and whistles as available out there at the moment to take a look at.
    To use with Sk*.

    Any advice please?

Dreambox 800se fits the bill and the vu duo.

Is there a preference between the said two above?
Is any one more advanced than the other?

the 800se... is that not single tuner?

I was thinking of the dreambox 8000 they are quid.
You do realise you can only record another channel if its on the same transponder.

I thought if you had a quad LNB that was not an issue?

Only if you share a feed from one LNB that you cannot record two things if on separate transponder?

Don't know about that have you a quad?
I was told you can only watch and record if its the same tp.
Surely quad or not its the same sat and connected to the box it has to be that way.

Best advice is to start a new thread in the vu do section.
Some of them boys will know the answer.
I've read before where you can use a loopthrough to get what you want.
Another thing reading between the lines 2 tuners means you will need permission for multi room if you catch my drift.
Trying not to break any rules.
                Andy.

a dual tuner can watch or record from any transponder on any satellite feed on either tuner, independently of each other. you need either a quad lnb with 2 feeds (the same as sly plus) or you could have one on a fixed dish and the other on a motor or something similar

the 2 tuners can be totally independent, or you can have loopthrough from a single feed with restricted viewing

a duo or a solo2 will fit the bill, the only caveat is the solo2 only takes a 2.5 inch sata laptop drive, whereas the duo can take a 3.5 inch sata hdd

Thanks.. what about the software for them?

Is that usually ready to go you just need to get the sk* service or is it more complicated?

the vu come with a basic image but you need to put a patches image onto them, like vix or blackhole, and then set them up afterwards , so there is a lot to learn which is why there is a dedicated section here for dreamboxes and vu`s, so yes its more complicated

cant talk about s** but suffice to say you need to install and setup an emu as well (emulator)

you wont get any box thats "ready to go"

I wouldn't be spending a fortune on any box at the moment reading between the lines unless you have a motorised set up.
Not with all the rumours going around. Just a thought.

its worth noting that boxes like the vu range can have plugins to do streaming and various tasks, not just satellite

stuff like bbcIplayer, itvplayer, 1channel and many more, they play avi and mkv films, play mp3 and other audio files, can download files from the net, all kinds of "bells and whistles" and will always be able to view fta channels as well. these are some of the reasons I recently bought a duo

Good point but I've a 25 quid dvd player that does half of that and most tvs you get iplayer etc.
My point is its a big investment if the sat scene goes the same way as cable when N3 hit.

trouble is that I have been hearing those same rumours for over 10 years, and had I taken note then I wouldnt have bought my first box all that time ago

I agree it is a risk, but I dont believe the "doom and gloom" merchants or "the end is nigh prophecies" you often see on the forums, and there is more to satellite than just one encryption as you well know

I bet when you bought your dreamboxes the same rumours flew about
