there are 2 cable types , straight wired and crossover

a crossover cable is a null modem cable and wired as follows

    pin 2 to pin 3
    pin 3 to pin 2
    pin 5 to pin 5

there may be others wired or not as the case may be, but the important pins for this task are as above

lnbf normally indicates a short circuit on the lnb or motor coaxial cable, but you say this isnt connected ? so cannot be a coaxial cable fault

in which case maybe the box is faulty ? so maybe you would be better to just scrap it and buy the new 6000 HD box ?

Now I'm thinking its the cable I'm not 100% sure but I am thinking it's that, as I think I have a serial null modem cable which I believe is wrong! Would I be able to buy on in pc world or marlin?

yes they both sell them at very silly prices, although they will probably try and sell you the straight wired serial cable and not the null modem cable
you can easily test your old cable with a multimeter according to the pinouts I gave, to see if it is a null modem cable or not

checked flea bay and cheap ones go for between ?3 and ?6 and null modem cables are also very cheap too
you could probably buy a cheap multimeter for testing leads and a new null modem cable on there for less than m*pl*n`s price for the cable only
