    Which satellite receiver to buy?

Hi, I want to buy a HD satellite receiver that supports CCcam and under ?100. Can anyone recommend me a good satellite receiver that will last for at least 3 years? Cheers

save up more i would think, not sure if the openbox or skybox can last that long, vu boxes are good if the box is original but much more expensive.

How long do openbox and skybox last for and what happens to them? Also I am new to satellite so I want a receiver that is easy to set up. Is the Blade BM7000s any good?

Unless you're getting a sly card or a motorised dish, I'm not sure any box would last you 3 years.
Well the box might, but not sure if you'd have much to watch on it.
          Hope I'm proved wrong though.

Why won't there be much to watch? Also is it worth buying a satellite receiver now because I've heard that CS might go down soon? I've heard that the skybox f5 is really good, can anyone confirm?

in this hobby nothing last for ever, and the way people flaunt these gifts it don't help, yes it could end at anytime, and the decision will after be yours at the end of the day , down the years been many things that have come and gone, if you are unsure then go cheap then you wont feel as bad, if you want to get into the hobby for the long haul get motorized the Vu range are very good, the ccam run better on a full blown linux box, but also depends at the other end how much traffic they are pulling in ie gilching.

I have a sly mini dish and hoping to use that, so any recommendations for a satellite receiver?

That's exactly why there won't be much to watch, if it all comes to an end.
Unless you go motorised or get an official card there won't be much to see if it comes to an end.
Can't comment on skybox as I've never had one.

Yeah I've heard CS could go down in August. So I guess it is not the best time to buy a satellite receiver.

not true at all, cs will carry on for a few more years yet
it may be true that one or more of the broadcasters may halt cs of their systems
but as a whole cs wont stop next month , and to prove it I will post in september if you like that its very much still alive

however, restricting yourself to that one satellite position with a small dish will definitely hinder you, and anyone else relying on it
the general satellite forum is about all satellite (generally) and not just about the one major broadcaster at 28e

I wouldnt , simple as that , too cheap and you buy cheap you buy twice

read my thoughts here when asked similar questions in the past its what I refer them to

either go with the blade bm7000s , or better still buy a vu (an original not a clone)
