    28e (UK) and 26e Best Dish/LNB config

    guys

a pal of mine wants to get the options of 26e footie along with being able to tune in to the UK offerings. Since he has nothing at present I was looking to set him up with a both a dish and box.

He wants 28e and 26e based on what he has told me, but i've not tried those two satellites together on a multi lnb and have never installed a motorised dish.

So my question is, do you think its worth getting him a motorised dish or is it farly easy to pick up both of those at once with a multi lnb config?

My mate lives in the midlands and i've heard a 1m dish is fine for 26e.

    Appreciate any suggestions.

I think he will need a much bigger dish for 26e, they may reduce power or change things to stop the uk getting those channels so I would not invest too much money or effort into it either

best bet is a dedicated sly mini dish pointed at 28e and the bigger dish to be fixed on 26e , or motorised to be able to get more choices

hmmm. Thanks for the tip. *some* of the channels offered on 26e I can pick up on my setup but not many. I see that mostly those offered on 26e are also offered on 7/7.3w. Is that something I can look into that might last longer...? I've check ed his line of sight and it looks okay initially.

I've not set up either 26e or 7w sats, i've only ever used 13/19/28 personally so i'm a bit in the dark about the recent improvements in EPL showings on those sats.

any improvements on those sats is outweighed by the fact that the footprint for the channels your m8 is after are aimed at the middle east and not the uk

there is a lot of forum chatter about this at the moment but I would think he needs a 1.8m dish (ground mounted probably) in order to get good signals and quality at all times from the channels he wishes to receive.

I can receive the satellites here in the north, but that doesnt mean I get all channels on each of those birds on my 1.1m dish. so yes you will pick up some channels from them, but the chances of getting the footy channels is unlikley on a 1m dish here in the uk, maybe if he was in dover he may get them at certain times, but as they are not aimed at our shores (unlike the 3 you mentioned) then I would think its unlikely, unless he spends vast amounts of money on massive dishes and the equipment that goes with them, so for most of us hobbyists its impractical, many have tried, and failed , already

There are a few local places in his area that show these footy channels at the weekend, and they look fine. I wonder what they are using?

Your 1.1m dish, is that on a motor? Do you get most channels showing footy 3pm? I'm just wondering if there is a best measure approach i.e this is all we can get. I suppose i'm just wondering what others have done so far and how good it is...

in the present season you will find that most of the previous offerings for footy have disappeared, its also been extensively talked about on this forum and many other forums, so I would say there are very few channels that can be received in the uk that are actually able to be watched, barring those on the 3 sats you already mentioned of course

the 3pm offerings are very sparse and that subject has been talked to death too so I am not repeating it

39e is still available for some footy and many patched receivers can decode it, its easily picked up by uk viewers too, has been for a long time

yes my dish is motorised (darkmotor) , yes I can pick up most satellites that I should be able to in the uk, but only the channels that are aimed at northern europe or the uk or both

what you are asking about on behalf of your m8 are channels that are not transmitted at the uk, so as there is little choice in the current season for uk viewers apart from sly and bt sport (or fox and sly italia and sly germany etc, maybe a few others too like on 5e but certainly very few now) then as I said earlier I think your m8 is clutching at straws and believing what his m8s tell him after 10 pints of lager on a friday night

if those in the uk with the larger dishes and better "sources" and good satellite knowledge struggle, then those who havent a clue will fail miserably, or they will pay a fortune and be disappointed, that is my general view

ie:- its not like it used to be

Cheers for the advice. I guess he's just excited about seeing a few places in the area suddenly offering 3pm games with Keys and Gray!! Having just looked at a few articles I can see as a rule of thumb this is regarded as an urgent issue and steps seem to be being made to 'ensure they are available only in designated territories'.

I'll look at something for the three usual suspects then.

I just checked luvly jubblys this weekend and its mainly al jaz for the 3pm matches, and as I said those channels are not aimed at us as well as being encrypted so I cannot see many uk hobbyists picking them up and watching them

now if you take all the al jaz channels out of the lists, there is little or nothing left , maybe one or two on 39e and thats about it apart from fox or italia for the italians

there is no way I can tell you what your local pubs are watching, to be frank you should be telling us not the other way round

now lets see if any of them have the man city match on , or hull, or spurs, or even villa !! - as I doubt it myself (unless they stream it somehow)

the lack of choice on lj,s should tell you and your m8 that its a lot more difficult for those of us in the uk, which is the point and reason why they have tightened up so much in the last 18 months

its also a fact that they should not be showing 3pm matches, as they have been banned in england for a very long time, over 20 years I think

ha ha, yeah I wonder how they get away with showing them then. and they even advertise .

There are some Al Jaz channels still showing up on 7.3 which i should be able to pick up on a 1m/1.2 reading from other hobbiests in the midlands area. The *odd* one or two on Nilesat 102 too. I think I might just get him a 1-1.2m motorized dish to save messing about with a multi lnb setup. That way if he can pick up anything *extra* even for a few more months then bonus. I don't think a dish that size would be a waste even if its just for the euro sats as at least the signal will be booming!!! ha ha.

I'll be in the midlands the weekend so i'll have a nosey where I can plop a dish and how high etc. Will go from there and let you know!...now to look at dishes and motors. Oh the joys of enjoying messing with sats.

Out of the 6 3pm matches this weekend a choice of three can be picked up by satellite dish: Fulham V WestBrom, Sunderland V Arsenal & Tottenham V Norwich easily receivable with an 80cm dish those with 1m and above with a very good setup Dish/LNB/Receiver should be able to also pick up the remaining 3.

And thats just what LJ's report nearer the time i would bet some feed TP's will turn up on either 10? east or something on the west side as well for free.

Still Plenty of choice with the right setup and long may it continue

Just to chip in your mate would also need a sub or a friend in the Middle East willing to share to get Al Jazeera to clear assuming he could get the satellite beams in the first place.

As Ramjet has stated reception is patchy at best so buying a sub could prove worthless and as for finding a friend in the Middle East willing to share, well good luck with that one.

If your mate insists on the Al Jazeera network for his footie needs then IPTV is the way forward for him.

Hate to be predantic Digicon but how would you receive the Hull City V Cardiff City game with a 1m dish based off LJs website today?

I hear a lot about these (to me) mythical free feeds over on 10e and I'm assuming the "west side" means 7w. I've yet to view an EPL match on any of these feeds even with up to date BISS keys installed.

Maybe it's just a case of checking to see if they are broadcasting at the time I don't know but for those of us without the benefit of a motorised system unless we set up a dedicated dish these feeds are next to useless to us.

If anyone knows of an LJs style website regarding these feeds or which ones to check then I'm willing to learn.
