As stated probably a faff to set up and a waste of a motor on such a small dish but if you have limited options on your dish size due to Landlord etc then it is maybe an option.

Part of the fun in this hobby is overcoming problems and the video I saw of the motorized Sly dish seemed to work quite well on 13e,19e and 28e.

Hi Totally agree about waste of money for a motor on a 45cm dish(motor becomes bigger than the dish...) . Problem also with a 45cm dish is that when it rains you may have problems on 13 and 19.2 east. I personally never install a motor unless dish is at least 1m in size... a 45cm dish gives very little options. I suppose if people are happy with a 45cm dish then they are happy.....

      Regards.

Just for the record I personally wouldn't even bother rescuing a 45cm dish from a skip if I saw one whilst on my travels as they are too restrictive for what they can practically receive.

But I also know how Landlords can be regarding having dishes etc attached to their property.
The man on the street has some vague idea about free footie at the weekends that a mate down the pub has told them about after a number of swift halves. But they are also under the delusion, thanks to Slys clever marketing campaign that only Astra 28e or "Slys satellite" exists up there all on it's own. So when you ask your Landlord about putting a different dish up they invariably reply with "Well there's already a dish up there for Sly, why do you need another/bigger one?"

Add to this the OP has mentioned a communal dish for Sly so I'm assuming he lives in some type of shared accommodation setup if so then his Landlord may also require him to have his bigger dish installed by "someone qualified" in other words "insured" for their own insurance purposes. Local Authority's can be a pain on this even telling you to remove your dish if you haven't asked for permission first regardless of who put it up.

Adding a motor whilst not an easy option or the norm would at least bend such a rule if the OP was facing it.
