    Which Triple Tuner box

Have been using satellite DM800 HD Clone for approx. 2yrs now and want to move up to a box that is similar to virgin Tivo with a triple tuner not a clone box as mine has had problems of overheating since I got the box. have been looking at the Amiko 2 triple tuner but was wondering if there was anything better for approx. the same price. Any advice would be very welcome Thanks. .

For the same price as Amiko, the answer would be no. You are looking at around double-triple that price for something like a VU range of box.

I would recommend the Gigablue Quad not as cheap as the Amiko range but at least its Enigma2 Linux and not some hybrid crap retails at around ?249

hi thanks for that it states Record up to 4 HDTV programs and an other HD look show on the Gigablue Quad am I reading it correctly it has the capability to record four diferent channels as standard or do you have to purchase more tuners Thanks. Sorry looked up the standard box my mistake seems a great box just a bit worried about paying out that much if all that is being said on other sites about our hobby coming to an end. The listing I have found says its ?349 with four satellite tuners any one know a cheaper place apart from E--y.

I have seen it on ebay with a standard price of around ?249 with 2 sellers offering it with a best offer price might be worth chancing your arm so to speak, It comes with 2 fixed tuners DVB-S2 and optional 2 x Plug & Play slots which you can either add 2 more sat tuners or a Freeview or cable tuner, Tuners appear to go for around ?29 each

Come over to us and see the 'hybrid crap' in action, see it do things receivers twice the price and more can't do, see it give a better picture quality than any 'Broadcom' receiver, see Spark sing and dance, think about your two year guarantee and then make up your own mind but please don't be guided by the comments of an installer that's never even used the receiver as that really wouldn't be giving you a true reflection to base your decision on.

They are not the easiest box around to learn from scratch, but once set up correctly , the Amiko's do work pretty well & do what they are meant to do being a twin tuner. The latest E2 image from the pkt team has fixed the HD judder & is rock stable. I have added in manually autobouqets 28.2 plugin & that works well also. If you have the extra money, then a VU would be a good choice, but if not the amiko alien 2 will do a job.

digi are you saying that with the gigablue that you can have it set up with sat/cable/freeview tuners and all working at the same time?

Not saying you can watch all 3 at the same time but you should be able to watch say Sat and record Freeview & or Cable or any of the other permutations with different tuners installed

O.P. dont base your decision on info from someone who has an ulterior motive....... trying to shift as many as possible. you showed your true colours on your forum by banning people and dropping support/closing threads

Calm down lads and lasses never wanted to start a war thought I would get a good range of opinions before laying out my hard earned cash as I do not want an expensive paper weight at the end I would rather spend a little more. Been looking at the VU+DUO2 which seems a good spec with the option for four tuners cant see the option to fit a cable tuner which is a good option if required I cant really see anything wrong with hybrids as surely they are a tried and tested make up of the good parts of boxes with improved add-ons are they not. Anyone's opinion is welcome as all helps me make the right decision in the end hopefully.

the problem with some of the clones or hybrids is that they sometimes need a lot of tweaking to get certain plugins to work which is ok for those who know about these things but for most of us we want them to work "out of the box" and so if buying a vu you can be sure that at least 2 teams if not more are developing specifically for them

as for retailers, they must be mad if they expect customers to pay out time and money to travel and see boxes in a "working" setup, how somebody who does not know a box can be expected to decide if a box is right or not in an hour or two is beyond me , its the same with cars or holidays or laptops or mobiles or or tv,s etc

you get them home and play around for days before you know if its right for you or not

the way I see this is digicon is not trying to sell anyone anything, but clearly the shops are, so will say whatever they feel to try to make a sale, but most of us are aware of the issues that happened on that forum so its hardly a balanced view here either

I own a vu, I would buy a vu , some of these 3rd party boxes may work or may not, but you tend to find they need more work and sometimes they have issues all of their own

Thanks m8 totally agree its a mine field just want to dodge a few. Thought I would try and get the opinion of a few people who have actually used these boxes I do love a challenge but do want a box that is actually going to work, I was originally talked into getting a DM800 HD CLONE But wish I had got an original instead and paid the extra as all I got was overheating problems. from all the write-ups I am swaying towards the vu+duo2 but still not sure as once I read a review on one box and think that sounds great I read another that sways me the other way.

agreed m8, I have played with a dm800 clone and its a PITA compared to my original and very fussy to set up, also played with icecrypts that are "clones" or rebadges of other boxes, I believe the s3700 is a rebadge of one of these spark running boxes and similar to that amiko

I have a vu duo and have had a play around with a solo 2 and there is no doubt in my mind that they are easier to setup and you tend to find the plugins get worked on until they are fixed for the vix and bh images whereas anyone with an alien or similar are always wanting stuff tweaked for themselves

I am not selling anything and not in the market for any box but a duo2 would go to the top of my list - thats for sure. I also believe the support for the vu boxes will not "dry up" either , whereas all these no-name and clone and third party boxes seem to fall by the wayside, even some of the original newbies that come and go like the eagle are the same, here today and gone tomorrow. people are always wanting you to change to the "next big thing" in this modern technology world and no sooner have you bought a new **** than its superceded , like mobile phones and tablets, so for a long term investment you wont beat a vu duo2 , but its pricier as we all know. I am afraid I cannot tell you about any dvb-T or dvb-C tuners but I know it can take an extra twin tuner sat module, probably a dvb-T stick too , no idea about cable
