The difference between the Giga Quad and the Duo2 are as follows:

Quad : has 2 Fixed in DVB-S2 tuners with 2 spare plug & play slots for either another 2 sat or Terrestrial or cable or a mixture of 3 x sat and 1 cable or 3 sat & 1 Terrestrial or 2 sat 1 cable / 1 terrestrial

Duo2: has 2 Plug and Play slots so either 2 x Twin tuner DVB-S2 for having a full quad satellite receiver or 1 x twin sat tuner and 1 cable/terrestrial etc...

Quad has image support from the OE Alliance, Duo2 has support form OE alliance as well as Blackhole.

Personally price wise if your not bothered about the extra bells/whistles on the Duo2 then for ?249 or perhaps cheaper you still have the option of a Quad tuner

    Regards

digi it also seems to be well supported with the image teams, does anybody have one ,whats the picture quality like, i like the idea of connecting your sat dish to the box and having the freeview as a standby for when you get snow and really heavy rain

The GB Quad runs the same processor albeit a different SOC versions than the solo2, Now i have the solo2 my self and rate it very highly but it does not have removable tuners as per your wish list, I do know quite a few people with the Quad and all of them love it, several prefer it to the Solo2.

Four cable booster is there such a thing

just a quick question do I have to run all four cables from my quad LNB to the tuners or is there a way of doing the same as you can do with your TV Ariel by installing a booster of one cable with four outlets to each tuner or is the only way to bring all cables from the LNB to the tuners. As I am setting everything up before I order my receiver.

each tuner requires its own lnb feed and each tuner will then be able to tune in any channels on any transponder irrespective of what the other tuners are doing

so 4 tuners = 4 coaxial cables from one or more lnb,s

just got my gigablue quad from germany quite impressed with the service, very nice box came with the openmips image quite a nice clean looking image you have to Google for a plug in to download any cams you require, set up now running nice what you do notice is the zapping speed when you change channels and quick boot up time also, will play with this then try the vix image later, seems to be a good buy for ?228 , thanks for making me aware of this box digi certainly worth the money

looks like the box for me as well just read a load of blogs saying there is not much support for this box at present but I suppose this happens with all new boxes when they are first released. Just read as well there is a Quad LNB cable out similar to the double cable you can get anyone know where you can get it if it exists.

there also seems to be more than one model of gigablue quad receiver being advertised, so maybe they use different images and maybe there isnt as much choice yet on the newest one compared to the older one (same as you may find on the vu or dreamboxes - they tend to have made more options as a box gets older)

if I were to buy one I would not know which of the 2 models currently on sale is the better buy, or has the support , hopefully it wouldnt matter but you have to consider this when only the make and not the model numbers are being bandied about) - just a thought

There is only one version of the Gigablue Quad with 4 tuners.

Looking at the other models the UE version looks similar with the colour lcd screen

Thanks for that will be using the shotgun cable as it is a lot cheaper and easier to rout around the house. As you can see from my questions I am still a it of a novice. This is the box I have been looking at on EBay Giga Blue HD 800 Quad Hybrid HDTV Linux HbbTV LAN Receiver DVB-S2 PVR HDMI | eBay have I got the correct box as it states its a hybrid and I understood it was not which digicon stated. What type of tuners would you recommend we watch a lot of satellite but the Mrs likes to record her soaps every week e.g. east enders and cori. Thanks for all your patience and replying to my questions.
