agreed, I have had a duo for 12 months (an original) and not had those problems , he may have been correct about the clone duo and maybe early duo`s but not the latest "proper" duo (a new original)

clearly his agenda was to sell you whatever he had in stock or could get hold of

I have no agenda , just friendly advice , which is buy an original vu , original tm twin , or the original gigablue

I would personally buy a solo 2 or duo 2 if I were upgrading FROM my duo (but I am not)

I have to agree with ramjet. Almost all vu clones that can take internal hdd can and often do have psu problems. Think on it this way an original duo or twin tuner uno or any other original twin tuner is going to set you back in the region of ?200 the duo and uno both have 400 mhz processors the solo 2 has a dual core 1300mhz processor and 1gb of ram. I've just looked at goldwafers and they are selling it for ?279. I also have no sales agenda and receive nothing from anyone for recommendations but that is the best price I've seen yet

Good advice - save up and get a bit more money so you can get the best official reciever you can get.

The Extrend ET 9000 or 9200 are good receivers and should not be overlooked.

Golden Media Triplex is a nice box and the PKT Hyperion 3 image for it is sweet ,its the same hardware as the Alien 2.
They can be bought for 155 euro inc delivery from Germany .

If you want to spend a hundred more get the Gigablue Quad ,very nice receiver.

The Solo 2 is an extra 100 euro more again and not worth it as the Gigablue Quad is a better receiver.
Duo 2 is mad money .

I wouldnt touch a Vu+ Duo,they are old boxes now and showing their age ,they are very slow compared with the Alien 2 and Gigablue .

I would say before you buy anything do a lot of research on your purchase as many members have given good recommendations for receivers.

And Lastly a major factor is SUPPORT and without a doubt Vu+ lead in this sector over every other receiver apart from DM

I seems to remember reading on a forum today there is no chance that VIX will come to the Alien due to the chipset incompatibility so I think I'll give that a miss and stick with a Broadcom MIPS based machine rather than the STI.

I see your point.. Not a great deal to lose apart from some time. There are two layers of protection. AliExpress and the CC via a snatch back.

The Nbox 5800 is a pretty decent buy for about ?100, twin tuner and the latest hyperion v3 image is stable.

As daft as this sounds the v3.2 sticker on a ferrari clone is on the bottom not the back. The psu on duo ferrari clones is bad enough without even going to a clone of a clone and you don't really have much protection as you are knowingly buying a clone product to import into uk that hasn't passed any british standard safety inspection

I have seen those 5800 boxes thanks shock. Cheap as chips but I don't think support is going to be that good when comparing it to the vu etc.. I'd like to record from EPG rather than recording via timer.. Think I've seen something like that on the DM or hopefully it's available on the vu?

dont you want to name and shame the seller who tried to scare you into buying a alien? depends what you want to do with the box but for recording/watching normal tv from powerfull dth/broadcast satellites then a VU+DUO or TMTWIN would me my choice for ?200,regards mdt
