Newbie starting setup

Just starting to set a system up, have Protek 9750 (a friend said it was easy to setup etc. and he can advise some), but would like some more information please.
Want as many channels as possible, but not too big a dish...thinking 90cm.
Hope to upgrade to motorised at a later time.
Am starting with an old dormant dish, and likely need to replace LNB, which should I use (there are a multitude available)? What db? Dual/twin (will this allow use for another receiver at a later date)?

Any links would be good, for what satellites have what, how to setup etc.

you would be better off with something like a orbital 1 meter or triax td110cm dish due to your location and the box you have is fine and will give you a good selection of channels from 39e/23.5e/19.2e/16e/13e/7e and 30w without the need for external lan providers. get the system set up with what ive said and then do alot of reading about the pro,s and con,s of other closed source or E2 linux boxs before spending anymore money. you could put a twin lnb on the motorised dish but obviously you could only watch channels from the second box on whichever satellite the motorised dish is parked on at the time,regards mdt

just to point out that the 9750 is no longer connected to the"gift" and is now just a fta box with the capability of other channels via the ethernet.

is that all of them? i thought it was just the older versions... " all old 9700/9750 with serial numbers beginning with 0 (production 2010) have been taken off the s*****. they will not open anything anymore other than the A******SAT package and S** Suisse package" regards mdt

get yourself a inverto black ultra twin lnb as they are the best lnbf,s available atm, take no notice of DB noise figures as they are bullshit. no longer connected to the gift means the payed services that open via lan dont anymore as they have had there access blocked. if your box is a new version and not that old you should be fine, regards mdt

(1)No, there was talk of being able to extend the "gift" service on the 9750 but I think that has been squashed any 9750 HD boxes still left on the server will only have a short life.
(2) the 9770HD is the current top of the range box but the 9720HD is cheaper and has the same channel lineup do not get a 9710 or 9760 as they will be the next to be cut off.

you cant rely on the scale anyway you will have to find the correct dish elevation by trial and error (see the guide I posted) if you cant see any markings start with the dish face about vertical and mark some lines on the bracket yourself with felt tip.then after each sweep L/R raise/lower the elevation a fraction take your time and you will succeed.

I am using a meter, and am struggling. I have followed the posted guide (for 0.8 Thor), and get the best signal (indicated by loudest sound on meter), and the dish is pointing at ~170, and has an angle of 0!?
All in all, seems very similar to the nearby Sky dishes...is the meter giving the load signal for another satellite?
On screen at setup menu i get ~80% Strength, and no Quality. Any ideas of comments please....
NOTE: not the best weather being up on the roof!!
Also, what Transponder value should i use for Thor, what is in the instructions, isn't in the list?
