Check your motor to see if it has elevation or latitdue markings. if your motor markings have only elevation makings it is 90- latitude= elevation on motor, mine is 51.5 latitude if it was elevation markings I would have put it to 38.5.

m8 try this...put your dish on pole mount first without the motor..set elevation on dish to 30degrees and move about till you find thor 1west..then using a marker pen mark where the dish is pointing on your pole...take the dish back off but leave the elevation set...put motor on pole and tighten up on the place you marked...now set elevation on motor exactly as it is on the dish--29/30 degrees...and put dish on motor pole 50mm from bottom of pole...it will now track the ark perfectly...set motor control to diseqc 1.2 and move dish manually storing sat positions as you find them....diseqc 1.2 is far more acurate than usals which doesnt lock onto the weaker birds as good....Comment

diseqc is only easier if you have an all bars dancing satellite meter...other than that usals all the wayPS3= krazylegz120282

hello mate dont worry your not a pain we have all struggled at some time.
have you read Krazylegs sticky thread yet? it really is the best way of setting up.
as to your dish the 22.5 I quoted would only give you a starting point youll still have to move it around to lock on to your target sat.
If all else fails and you cannot follow the sticky thread I suggest this cheats way of doing it(the purists will frown on it).
1st set the motor to astra 2 28.2E degrees by the manual button, the set must be on to give power then make sure the STB is also set to 28.2E and on an active transponder then point the whole motor/dish assembly in the same direction as the local Sky dishes.then by moving the motor assembly back and forth and the dish up and down you should pick astra 2 up. once you have found it the other sats should be found using USALS.Comment

The DM500s doesn't support gotoXX mate..
Read this..
You should have said you had a D500S earlier and maybe posted it in the Dreambox section mateI had the same problem myself last week.
Its Usals,it doesnt work properly on the 500s.
I was confident my physical setup was correct.
I deduced it must have been a software prob.
I was using Usals setup and had entered my exact location correctly.
Could only pick up 2 bloody satellites,5w and 8w.
Decided I'd turn off usals and do it the manual way.
Started at 8w,then moved east until I hit 5w.
Then went to 13E and moved the dish slightly east in steps .
Hit 13e,16e,19e and 28.2.
I have about 20 sats tuned in now,all good signal.
I spent ages trying to get Usals to work but it was useless.
This is what I did to get it to work
The DM500s doesn't support gotoXX. The long way is to use stored positions is described below.
Please note that your zero satellite (1W in this example) will depend on where you are in the world.
Go to Menu > service searching > motor setup
Mode: drive to zero
and press go
Then change the mode to position and select 1W:
Satellite: 1W
Drive the motor to zero.
Mode: Position
Satellite: 1W
then use the < > arrows to move the dish until you get a lock. STORE the position (I use the same number as the satellite).
Then SEARCH.
Repeat for 13E, 19E, 28E, storing the position for each.
If you use gotoXX you shouldn't have to do it but I couldn't get it to work with my 7020 (and it doesn't work at all with a 500s).
Your screens and options may vary slightly depending on the Dreambox model and image that you have.
Extra info:
Mode is position, drive to zero and a few options.
SATELLITE has the list of satellites.
In simple terms you drive the motor back to zero so you have a fixed position.
Then you change the MODE back to position, select the satellite from the list next to SATELLITE.
Then you move the motor (dish) using the < > arrows (these move the dish east and west).
When you get a lock on the satellite you chose, you store it's position and then go to the next menu screen and scan it.
