recording problem giga blue quad hd

Hi all last few weeks had a problem with recordings on playback they glitch and pixelate yet the channel they are recorded off is fine as have watched the channel whilst recording if I rewind then play again the recording is ok where it previously glitches have re-installed vix image the same no change have also had every now and again colours flashing across the screen not very often and had to re-boot to get rid of it tried recording on each tuner but still the same. have now suspected the box may be overheating so placed a laptop fan under it tonight so will see how it goes.

was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems.

I'm not having any recording problems with mine and you could fry an egg on the top of it . It may be errors within the image or it could just be the heat. How do you have it set up m8. I mean where are you storing epg, picons and file swap. If you are keeping them on hdd it will be running constantly generating a lot of heat. I have usb plugged in to store all the above and for timeshift. I'm also using a wd Green hdd which only spins up to record (not timeshift) all in a vain attempt to keep the heat down. If the missus starts her nonsense recording 3 things and watching something else the bloody things runs at around 53? way to hot for my liking but with no fan not a lot I can do about it. I don't have any recording issues even at that temp though

Maybe you's could let others know what kind of temperatures these boxes get to under normal circumstances are they doing their job and are they up to it? Thanks.

In an open unit with half decent natural ventilation the system temp is between 40/42? but in the unit with doors on and as soon as the missus puts the heating on like now. ...... It is running at 54?c. It doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on how it performs but cannot be doing the components/solder any good. I'm also not sure how accurate the open atv readings are.

well the fan had no effect on the recordings still the same but cant seem to change my time shift settings from hdd to usb but must admit it is a bit enclosed under the stairs but has been there for 9 months working fine. might go back to an older vix image to when all was fine to see if it makes any difference.

You will struggle to change timeshift to usb on vix it throws up an error if I remember correctly. OpenAtv will give you more adaptability but sometimes has stability issues. Well mine does cause I use nightly's and mess with it a lot

going to strip down my setup tomorrow and install another image as I cannot find why it is doing this with recordings only keep all updated its going to be something very simple. I hope.

Like i said try openatv very very similar in set up to vix, graphical epg, timer record and the likes are all the same except you have a bit more control especially with the restart of your mg thingy. By changing the restart from default to init.d it will restart automatically after gui restart which can't be done with vix. There are a few other things you have more control over and my recordings are always spot on. If you do decide to give it a try send me a pm I've a couple of things you will need. You can of course find them yourself if you prefer to.

It is a fantastic box never had any trouble with it until now but as I always say 99% of the time its not the equipment its normally the nut behind the wheel.

The trouble with me I cant stop messing until I F--- it up LOL.

Have you checked out the hard drive ?
If the channel on the tv is fine then the recording should be ok as well.
Try & record a little to the usb & see how that works.
If its ok then try a different hard drive.

I'm no expert to this as I've just returned to satellite after many years away from the hobby.

Thats a point goint to try that when the misus gives me the remote LOL shes watching her beloved soaps at pressent.
another point is if you rewind the picture and play again the recording will play back okay and glitch in a different place.

If your going to try recording to usb try it with an sd channel as the usb may not have a quick enough write speed for the raw hd format
