This was one of the reasons for the data base as there is nothing for a newbie, can remember when i first started i am surprised i still have my original box running.
i used to come onto threads and wonder what on earth are they going on about, but stick arround this is an excelent site my teepee is set up in Dk at pressent Vix are great images and user friendly but i would pause for a while as a lot is going on to update all the drivers and boot loader. I got frustrated myself, need any help give me a shout if i cant answer you i will or find the answer or refer you to someone who can.
only read a few posts with this problem of not booting up with the plus as my main box is the quad not the plus but mine done the same its running fine now.

I think I'm fortunate my main box is a Technomate 7102Hd so I can afford to wait for things to get clearer for me.
If it was my main box then I would be very frustrated I would say.
Also its the Quad Plus I have so I don't seem to have to suffer like the Quad owners.
I'm new to this type of receiver having just come back to satellite after a long time away from the hobby.
I've no doubt the information is there but spread all over the net.
Very frustrating for newbies coming into the hobby.

I've no doubt Vix is a very good image & is hugely popular. Seems to be the number one image for Enigma 2 boxes.

One thing I'm trying to get my head around is ?
If I try a different image can I use the backup of my settings from the Vix image or would I have to start all over again.

Also If I upgrade to the latest Vix image how can I put my satellite & channel settings back in the box again ?
There seems to be two backup types in the menus ?

If I was just on one satellite I wouldn't mind setting up the box again but I have a motorised dish with a good spread of satellites from 54.7 East to 61 West so I don't want to have to set all these up again every time I change the image.
I could have asked these questions on another site but that site is dominated by Vix so I'm not sure how questions about other images would go down.

I haven't tried it but would assume other images save differently so settings wouldn't match.
If you did online upgrade you shouldn't lose satellite and channel settings.
The two types of back up one will save your sat/channel/plugin/etc settings.
The full will back up everything including image you are using.
You can save these settings to computer via dcc or such. hth

If you change your image from say vix to openatv or anything other than vix then your settings backup will not work. Same goes for settings backed up from any other image, they are not cross image compatible which means you will have redo all your sats. I personally don't recommend online updates. They do work but I find the box gets slower and slower the more you do. A clean image install from usb is always best then just restore sat settings and the likes. If you are going to use the settings backup to reinstall plugins then make sure you have updated all the plugins before you make the backup. There isn't a rush to get images out, as it is impossible debug the images completely during testing the best way is to get the error logs from users as and when they happen and fix them this is what results in a lot of images being released especially if you are using nightly's instead of final releases. I use the term final release loosely.
