Many thanks for the info guys, I haven't seen the problem myself but she says the sd picture is fuzzy, people have a black outline around their faces & where there is text on the screen it's fuzzy & hard to read, and having vermin to compare it's not doing that on vermin sd, this is a complete new install done yesterday & she is using the hdmi cable supplied by sky

        sd problems

tell you m8 to unplug all other devices such as dvd, games consoles, freeveiw boxs, cordless phones, video recorders and do a fresh set-up with tv, sky box and hdmi lead and see if the problem is still there, if it is have a look at the settings on the sky box and the tv, eg.. colour , contrast, and so on.

Well I've seen it now and it truly is a crap picture, some sd channels worse than others, I've tried running sd through scart - still crap, I've tried virtually all picture settings on the sky box and on the TV, tried different hdmi etc, picture is now just about watchable but un acceptable it's fuzzy and when there is movement it looks as though its raining on the inside of the screen. Mine is being fitted on Sunday so hope my 37 panny plasma copes better with the sd than this lg does or I will have to reluctantly go with vermin as their sd is brilliant.

            Hi,

Not sure if this is useful input or not but i bought a 50" LG LCD to use with Sly HD and also noticed a lot of blurred text and apparent ghosting or picture lag whatever you want to call it.

Had a read on AV forums and found out LG's are quite prone to poor SD picture and image retention so returned the TV and bought a Panasonic 50"G10 on some forums members advice and the picture is COMPLETELY different, even football on Sly sports SD looks brilliant.

I asked on AV forums as well if the HDMI lead could be an issue but was told as it is a digital input a ?5 lead would be no worse or better than a ?50 lead as it would either show picture or not unlike an analogue lead.

May be useful to read some forum reviews on your model of TV and see if others mention poor SD quality as well

Thanks m8, it's not my tv but the sd on vermin was mint, so it seems to be skys signal being worse than vermins and her tv not liking that, I'll see how it looks on Sunday on my panny when I get mine installed, I will recommend she cancels sky before her 8 working days is up.
Edit looks like the tv is not a problem found this review:

They recon sky sd looks good on it, so may be worth getting it properly calibrated?

To be honest if the SD through vermins is fine im not sure if calibration is going to make a big difference, THX preset is usually quite good without re-calibration. seems its more of an issue with the stb rather than the TV. Easiest way to solve this is like you say set it up on your panny and if its the same problem you know its either the stb or a shoddy install by sly.

...it will be the sky box ..

nowt to do with the install..

ask her to complain and they will repair box ..

im sure if there was an issue with that make and model tv ..people would report the problem ..lots.

like when there was issues with early pioneer tvs ..which could not handle hd ...

in the end it was pioneers fault and they had to update tv ( media box) .. and they put in new board .

but yours is a diffent prob ..and its the box in my eyes .

Update, sky engineer came out and replaced her cable from dish for a better quality one, then fitted a new box which has sorted it, mines been installed and is good too, but vermins sd is a tad better
